Did you read the entire post? I dont mind making a lot less over the three months im with ta ( if that ends up being the case) i like making my first 3 months easier and the perks i mentioned are worth it to me again ill say it, i dont need to support anyone and making a random $50 check wont bother me.

OK, fine. Maybe not a BIG mistake, but still a mistake. Can you enter into just a 3 month lease ?

Is .40 cpm unusual? Other folks I have spoken with say 'every company is different' which tells me they don't want to commit to a real answer- or they just aren't sure. I ask because a recruiter with Wiley Sanders spoke to my husband yesterday and said .40 cpm is the pay rate for their company. Should we be wary of trusting that information? Thanks :)

Very few companies pay their expierence drivers .40 and you also got to watch out for the sliding pay scale, and those who inflate their pay scale with per diem.

I have to apologize, I have never heard the term 'sliding pay scale', could I get you to explain that to me?

Sliding scales are something like this. If u get a load that is only 100miles pay u .40cpm, 200 miles or less .38, 400 miles or less .36 and anything over 500 .32

A-haaaa! Ok, that explains what my sister was talking about a few weeks ago. I told her I would've understood Japanese better than what she was attempting to explain; I guess I needed to see it in print, lol. Is this a better way to go than per diem? (Sorry for the questions I am sure have already been asked...I'm not finding them as easily as I am by just sticking to this thread, so I appreciate your candor and patience! :) )

Well I for one have seen from TransAm Pete that most of his checks are over $1000 and he is lease. I guess you have to keep you speed low and if you do venture off their trail remember that your being paid for those miles. I am sure that if your were to ask your DM as a company driver you could swing by your house if you were running close to it. Thing is you would have to ask. But I am sure they could adust your route if it was close enough and you could make delivery on time still. I plan on working no less than 6 months as a company driver (Want to really wait a year) and then will look at the lease offers then. Not only for TrasnAM but Alliance (Stevens) too. I want to learn the business before I get into it. Plus at Stevens if you go Lease you have upto two months to change your mind if it dosnt look right for you and go back to being Company. At TransAm you can NEVER go back to company again if you go lease.

Good Luck. Hope to keep in touch once I get on the road next week with TransAm.

Actually most have the per diem built in. So they might have .25 taxable and every thing after that non taxable.

At my current job I get .30 taxable and .10 non taxable. Thats not 2 bad. Most companies are using perdiem so probably cant excape it.

If nontax is a a real high number you may have to pay taxes on it at the end of the year.
