This a question for you brokers that I took from different threads. There are some who say they have a charge list of accessorials which is sky higher than what is presented in the initial broker-carrier set up. Some say that they put the stamp on the rate con and then send it to you or even on the very set up document. Is it supposed to supersede the initial broker-carrier agreement or the rate con? So if I put the stamp saying 150 per hour for detention and 850 for TONU and I don't hear from you would it mean that you agree...how would you react? Some brokers don't even wait or want the signed rate confirmation to be sent back. Is there realistically any room for such high accessorials? What are the fees for TONU, Detention, Layover (per day) that you pay on common daily basis?

Generally, my conversation goes like this, "Hey man. Sorry about what's going on. What do you think is fair?" And then we discuss. 9 times out of 10, I go back to the customer amd let them know. I also make sure that folks get me in and out times, because I've got to justify the cost to the customer on the deal.TallJoe Thanks this. -

im new to this freight broker job and I'm having trouble finding shippers , any tips / ideas?

You very well may be just the guy to answer my question, or know someone who can.
My cousin is an O/O.
Now, because I've had some experience in the Industry... albeit very limited. He wants me to work as a dispatcher for him so he can concentrate on the driving and rebuild his business.
He'll introduce me to his contacts/brokers. I'll develop a relationship with them. I book the loads and dispatch them to him and handle the paperwork. It's not going to be easy, and it's going to be on the job learning so to speak, but I was in I.T. for 23 years...which is a perpetual learning curve in itself. Not to mention I'm 61 and can handle most critically thinking positions. I'm also a disabled Vet so accomplishing tasks through the V.A. is no easy feat, so I have a lot of resilience.
My cousin and my brother believe I "have to be" an employee. Yet my cousin will not be able to provide me any benefits such as dental, medical, 401K et cetera, et cetera.
I'm not interested in being an employee. I'm interested in helping him as an independent contractor (1099).
Is there any D.O.T or F.M.C.S.A regulations preventing me from working with my cousin dispatching loads as an independent contractor?
I'll be looking forward to any input you may have. Including pointing me other resources or individuals that could provide accurate information
