Verifiable work history for a certain period of time is a DOT requirement. (I cant remember the time length. 10 years?)

Recent driving experiance is a company's discretion. They can set any requirment for re-training if you have a valid CDL and your experiance isnt recent.

Unlike the past, there is no shortage of driver's... there are lower turnover rates... and plenty of un-employed, untrained individuals looking at Trucking as an option.

Companies can be a bit more choosey these days.

all i'm saying is some people are unemployed through no fault of there own. and some companies don't exist anymore. makes it tough for verifiable. and to question why they've been unempoyed for so long. well duh, isn't it obvious.

2 months ago there were refresher courses. not no more. i'm still driving. and my truck don't drive any different then your truck. and i have the same dot regs and inspections that you do. i've had my job 5 years now. had my license 8 years. but having students wrecking stuff up seems to be the more preferable solution over someone that hasn't been OTR.

in my 25 years of working. only my lst 6 1/2 years of work is still around. 2 companies. and even if you wanted to go back 10 years. and those companies still existed. the chances that anyone being around that you used to work with will be long gone.

here's the technical question though. since i haven't been OTR that should mean no experience in all reality. since that how they are looking at it. to which case only 3 years is required. and i've had my job 5 years.

when i first started driving. it was 10 years non driving or 3 years driving for past job reference. and i do know that no phone calls were made to past jobs when i started driving.

anyways, keeping your w-2's is still going to be the best reference your going to have. economy goes up and it goes down. companies come and companies go.

So I've already made up my mind to go to prime I head out monday. Then today I read somewhere that the only way to work for prime is as a lease operator or a o/o that's not true is it? I hope not. I just want to company drive right now. Help me out here guys.

We have plenty of company drivers. Going lease-op or buying a truck is entirely your decision - as is whether you team or drive solo.

    you read this somewhere?

Not to trying to be a jerk...

If you spent any decent time researching Prime.... in this section alone "Trucking Company DAC Reports > Prime" , you would have found this issue time and time again answered in quite a few threads.

Does anybody have any info on Prime's Tanker division?
I have read many Prime posts but cant recall much info on the Tanker side.
(I hope I didnt miss the post somewhere that answers all my questions... the search feature is tricky too):biggrin_25526:
I like the idea of Primes extended training period, and the training pay is good enough for me, so they are on my list of co's.
Although I would like to try flats, I think I am probably too out of shape to go that way right now so I was considering tanker.

So, anyone with any Tanker info or experience, I would be grateful for a heads up!

    > What does Prime Tanker haul?
    >Where do they run mostly?
    >What is hometime for Prime and Prime Tanker?
    >How is Tanker doing in this economy?

Thanks! (and if i did miss the Tanker post, just leave me a link if you wouldnt mind please.):biggrin_25520:

Only thing I know for sure is that at this point we are not hiring for or expanding the tanker fleet.

You can double check with a recruiter, but as of 2 weeks ago I know a trainee that was intrested in going tanker and they told him there werent any available slots.

So does Prime require a passport? Is that so you can go to Canada? What if you cannot drive in Canada?

I have been reading all these Prime threads and am learning a lot, so bear wit me.:biggrin_25515:

I can say I dont like the Prime website very much, it is confusing to find info, etc on it.:biggrin_25523:
    Thanks!

Yup. As for the passport, if you can go to Canada, then you need one. If not... it's not necessary.

Then you're not going to Canada. Can't say if that disqualifies you, though. This is best answered by a recruiter. That being said, there are ways of getting your status for entry into Canada changed. It mostly requires a lot of money. Why does that figure???

It's not constructed very well, is it?

    lynryd Thanks this.
