booman... start on the company side - then think about getting into a lease. Much of the industry-wide turn-over in drivers are folks with 1 or 2 years experience who can't stand it. You don't want to be locked into a lease if that's you. Also, making money on a lease at Prime is all about holding your costs down - and that means fuel. You need to learn how to drive that truck cheaply, before you hitch yourself to it. The best place to do that is on the company side - its easy to jump to the lease side, not easy to jump from lease to the company side.

Okay... lease operators are paid 72% of the linehaul revenue, Fuel Surcharge, and accessorial payments (like extra stop pay) - think of it as one big bundle of money - last time they updated the website that averaged to $1.46 per mile. From that you pay your tractor lease payment, mileage charge, fuel, oil, etc. What's left over is yours, if there is any.

If you are going to be successful at leasing, you must learn how to drive your truck economically - and the big thing is the fuel bill. Running your truck "cheaply" means getting good fuel mileage - and that is directly dependent on how you drive that truck. A few years back when I was in your position, the best advice I could get was to learn how to get 7 mpg consistently. Today, I'd say 7.5 mpg is the target. The best place to do that is on the company side, where you get paid by the mile.

To get upgraded to A-seat, you need to make it all the way through the training program.

IP...Over the past 2 months, I have read every thread and post dealing with Prime Inc. You and many others (too many to list) have given me great insight and information about the trucking industry and Prime, Inc. I owe you all loads of gratitude.
I am confirmed to start orientation at Sprimo on the 26th and am fully confident that I am making the right choice.

    Mudrunner and ironpony Thank this.

Good luck man! It's worked for me, but like all things - your mileage may vary... hope it works well for you too.

Its something you learn as you go. Do a pretrip everytime you start a driving shift to get used to the equipment... and you need to spend time memorizing the process when you're not driving.
