Here is the PSD / Training process

    1. One week classroom in Springfield. You will take your permit test (if you didn't arrive with it) this week and get an instructor.

    2. 100 hours one on one instruction on the road with a Prime instructor (hopefully someone awesome, like sazook!). This takes 3-4 weeks.

    3. Test in Springfield for CDL

    4. Training period of 30,000 miles

    5. Your own truck!

hey sazook can a student driver request a certain trainer? how does the matching work just random or does the trainer pick who he wants to take?

Thank you, DTB! That's less than the 4-week CDL class, so that plus having only to take one set of CDL tests (no tests necessary when I return to Michigan other than hazmat) helps make up my mind. And even if I leave Prime before the year contract period - which is highly unlikely since I do NOT like changing jobs - the full cost of PSD is much less. So, as IP said, keep da money, honey, and give Prime a shot.

Now where did I put that recruiter's name and phone number....oh, wait. I'm not available until January.

Patience, grasshopper. When you can take the coin out of my hand, you will be ready. :biggrin_25523:

On the other hand, if THIS is correct, the time is 5 weeks, which is more than the 4-week CDL class. What to do, what to do...

If you go thru the Prime school, your training period will be 10,000 miles less, so you would be in your own truck 2-3 weeks sooner. Also, many of the good trainers gravitate towards trainees that went thru the Prime school, as they are usually of higher quality than someone who went to an outside school.

<Note to self: Seek out Sazook's name as possible ADI (Awesome Driving Instructor>

For me, the main issue is the day I actually get the CDL because it's then that I begin earning the $600 a week. I'm at the $200 a week level until then. But if I have an ADI, I am confident the time will fly by...!

I think my mind has been made up. Well, mostly.

Seriously, I suggest the PSD program. Wish we'd done that. REALLY wish that we'd done that.

OK this is where I'm at. I talked to the recruiter again today and everything is a go so far. She said that after my 40000 with my trainer they would start me at .34 cpm and I could stay with the North East Region fleet and get another .5 cpm bringing me up to .39 cpm. Then if I take one of their Pete 383's I would get another .4 cpm that brings me up to .43 cpm. Now knowing what most companys are starting there drivers at this isn't to shabby at all. Now my question. Has any of you drivers been on their North East Regional Fleet? Do they actually get you good miles? A company can pay you 1.00 a mile but if you not driving your not earning. I'm looking at being in Pittston on Monday. I know I still have awhile to decide. Just figure I would throw this out there and see what you come up with.

Why? What's up with them that they pay you more to drive one?
