Do all Cascadia's hate hills or is it just my trainers truck? I was coming into out 90 along hwy 22 in central PA and I had it floored in 7th @ 1400rpm and could barely get it to do 35. Theses weren't the Rockies fer crying' out loud
What's even worse is the new trucks he has ordered have and even LOWER gear ratio for presumed better MPG. My fear is these new trucks will be even worse on hills.

Torque is what gets you over hills, and the transmission acts as a torque multiplier. You downshift until the torque delivered to the wheels matches what is required by the load and grade. Chances are you got too far behind the power curve to generate enough torque to get you up the hill.
You should be climbing at 1100 to 1200 rpm, with enough power reserve that you aren't "floored." You downshift below 1100 - and keep downshifting until you can manage to maintain 1200 rpm - without "flooring it." You're driving a class 8 truck, not a car. Stop focusing on speed so much - you take what you can get, and concentrate on managing the engine.McBjork, silenteagle, ttownrunner and 1 other person Thank this. -

Couple Qs here when I p/u my truck I had to pay for chains and load locks out of my pocket, also when I asked for supplies for the truck (engine oil, fuses, extra light bulbs) I was told that I would need to get that on my own. I was telling this to a driver I meet and he told me since I am a company driver I did not have to pay for items the truck needs to keep running. The other company I used to work for paid for all that stuff. A little confused so if anyone can clear this up much thanks.

The rest you can get on the road when you charge them to the truck while fueling. The "additional products" option when fueling.briarhopper Thanks this. -
Yeah thanks to the drivers before you who sell off their company equipment at the truck stop, you pay for chains, load locks.
You can get reimbursed when you turn them in when/if you quit. -
Washer fluid, oil, coolant, power steering fluid, even 1/5 wheel grease if they have it. I've gotten all those at the shop. Don't forget to grab extra bulbs/lights for tractor and trailer and spare wiper blades.
