Ill refer you to post 22 and 27 where scalemaster explains the regulation. I think he'd know given he works as a scale house officer.
Everret you can't say you haven't read this cuz your "thanks" are all over that thread.Highway101 Thanks this. -
In the January issue of Trucker newspaper (found in all truckstops), an FMCSA official posted an article about the logbook and their expectations on drivers logbooks... Here is a summary:
On Duty: 5-10 minutes for Pre-Trip, 10-15 minutes for Fueling & dealing with shippers or receivers, (and they did not specify if you were on the dock) and the full time you are in a scalehouse or going through an inspection or DOT stop.
Off Duty: Up to 2 hours before or after your 8 hr (continuous) sleeper berth, or 1 hr before and one hr after. There is some flexibility.
Sleeper Berth: At least 8 hours of CONTINUOUS TIME
Off Duty Driving: must meet all criteria, not on a dispatch, bobtail or empty, not moving for company business.Highway101 Thanks this. -
So if I crash for a couple of hours, get up and get something to eat, and then go back to bed... on a 10, I'm screwed according to this idiot that probably has never even sat in an 18-wheeler. BS. And exactly who sleeps CONTINUOUSLY for 8 hours? Double BS.
silenteagle Thanks this. -
what i did was log 15 once there, ask how long, okay see in 7 hours too load and go too sleeper if i was tired, or if not tired just go for a walk , or something, and just left up there in the sleeper line, course those were my outlaw days and don't think i could do that with e log's , well i'm going back over there and read some more on regulation's,so much has change over the year's and yes i read everything on here

Keep in mind that there is nothing in the regs that forces you to log line 4 time if you are sound asleep in the sleeper while backed into a dock. It's only when you are actively involve in loading, unloading, supervision of, or dealing with paperwork that you need to show on-duty, not driving.

OK, Thanks folks, I read up on it, but got concerned when in the Q&A section of the online regs, it stated you were on duty while loading and unloading. I searched here but did not find the thread that UT mentioned. I basically am doing it right. Pull into shipper and drop bills, back into dock is all onduty. While loading/uloading I log it as off-duty unless Im in the SB. Then when I pick up the bills, and send msgs, I go back to onduty.
Thanks again for the clarification. -
Hi, okay that what i did , just went too the sleeper, most of the trainer's i had never really said how too do it, so that's the way i did it , and now for a different argument type deal , we are not getting paid , whether your unloading your trailer or in the sleeper, unless the wheel's are rolling, so there for awhile i thought we was and only way is if you go hourly, but after so many hours , you do get that detention pay , so that help's

My log is permanently attached... leaving it in the sleeper would hurt a lot!
