Figured it was something like that. Used to drive past that terminal all the time and had never seen that many trucks in there. Does Prime run Pete's? I know they are coming out with new engines, haven't heard much about them yet.

Seems like we're getting a little bit of everything now... Pete's, Internationals, Freightliners. We have some KWs, but stopped buying more a year ago.

What is with the little single bunk Petes? They are kind of intriguing in their simplicity, and I would assume low price, but what divisions are using those? Are they being leased out or are they just for company use?

I put in an app with Prime a few days ago. I worked for them in 2002, but have been off the road for a few years, so I'm not sure if they will be interested in me.

The lightweight trucks (we have Petes, Freightliners and Internationals) are for company drivers. Seems like the eventual plan is to switch over all solo company drivers who are not instructors or trainers into the lightweight trucks. Lease operators can lease one if they want, but they are specifically for company solo drivers.

If you need a trainer you sure don't need a lease truck....:biggrin_2554:

I'm 30 y/o and have been around trucking all my life, my father has been a truck driver for over 40 years mostly heavy hauling but also did alot of tank yankin for Schnieder and before starting his own heavy hauling co he was a terminal mngr for DANA trnsprt. I have just never had my CDL's cause of being in the Army, my father want's me to go OTR for a year before he put's me to work. But I understand what you mean I was just wondering ,thinking of going with Prime to get my OTR experience, Thanks

Then go as a company driver for a year, Prime or whichever company you land at - they'll teach you a lot of good habits you can either keep or ignore later. That'll help you develop the driving techniques you need to become a businessman, i.e. owner-operator later.

Best to learn the ropes on their DIME so to speak. Watch , listen and make notes.

Get that year behind you without the headaches of leasing or buying a truck .

I have a guy working for me who did a stint with PRIME , then moved up this way , drove for me and recently bought a truck and works for me now.

Says a lot of what he learnt at PRIME has helped him both as a driver and now an O/O
