This was a great video about the stability of the industry.

 

I honestly don't know for sure. I looked at the DMV website and it says all CDL applicants must have a valid medical card, but it's confusing if that includes someone applying for a permit. Your best bet would be to call the DMV or even just stop by a DMV and ask.

 

I appreciate your answer, I will call dmv then.Thank you. If you do have to have a med card before you take the cdl permit test, i will just do the test at prime if i am accepted in the school.

I'm a little confused by your question and I haven't read the entire thread so i don't know what others have told you, but my first question is , Why are you giving up your CDL-a at all, have you been out of the game for awhile and prime is making you start over? Are going through the PSD program or coming in as a "C" seat trainee. Does your recruiter know you have a cdl?. If it is due to being out of the game and prime is making you give it up then everything will be handled in SPRIMO, and once you get your new CDL you just go to the DMV in VA and convert it and at that time fill out their medical form and give them a copy of the long form physical. I hope this helps

 

We advise most folks to get their permit (if required) before they go to PSD... easier on the ol' stress level.

 

Yeah, i have been out for 3 goin on 4yrs. now. Not by choice though. Had some health problems that prevented me from continuing my employment with the trucking company i was with. So i got to start over. I hope dmv will let me take the cdl permit test without getting the med card. I have not called dmv yet.

 

I understand them wanting you to do a refresher but I think it would be a cold day in southern climates before I would surrendor my cdl.

 

Are you certain the recruiter told you to surrendor your valid cdl? I think I would get clarification from someone above his head.

 

Prime does not offer a refresher course. They will not hire CDL holders without a refresher course if they have no recent experience.

So either pay an outside school for a refresher course, or surrender your CDL and start all over through Prime's PSD program.
