i am figuring that $1.50 should be an average on 2000 miles
but even with those numbers, what would a driver pocket at the end of the week?z
lets even make it a $5,000 week at 3000 miles as a comparison -
If you were to scale that based on the per-mile rate, all other things being about equal (not necessarily a good assumption, since tractors cost more in 2013 than 2009, and fuel) he'd be about $1300 per week NPBT. For us, the fuel bill is the 800lb gorilla in the room. Get great fuel efficiency (average near 8mpg) and that number is realistic. You can easily run one of these trucks near 6mpg too - with a corresponding decrease in your NPBT. Based on 100,000 mile per year (convenient for scaling) that's a difference of 4,167 gallons of fuel. At $4 per gallon, that's 16.7cpm per 100,000 miles less in your pocket.
Don't complain the next time you encounter one of us doing significantly less than 65mph in the granny lane. Its about the dead presidents, not your ego.Last edited: Jan 27, 2013

wow
if you pull out one of those glen beck chalkboards, im gonna scream
lets use your $1.73/mi avg load, lets use $3.50/gal, lets drive 2000 and 3000 miles averaging 6.5mpg on a brand new cascadia, no medical, no dental, no child support, no irs garnishments
how much in my pocket? 2000 and 3000 miles -
Do prime inc. Company drivers get to take truck home for there home time or do you have to take it back to the terminal? Reason I ask is the terminal is 3 hours from home.

2k miles works out to around $840 (this is where the company guys come in at after taxes)
3k miles works out to around $2040
Now... my average miles are more like 2400 per week on a solo truck. That pegs you at $1321 - which is probably more reasonable to expect. In refrigerated freight we're slaves to our appointments quite frequently, so it makes no sense to run any faster than you have to and take advantage of the savings in fuel. At 6.5 mpg in my truck even near GCVW means I'm hitting it pretty hard. Keep in mind we're talking AVERAGES here, and a nice cushion of cash is needed to keep things afloat.
Let me ask you something... where do you expect your net per week to be?Last edited: Jan 27, 2013
