Perth amboy is hell for a truck lol. But how do you like working for prime? How long have you worked there for? Any insight you or anybody else has would be helpful. Thanks to all.

I have been talkimg with her for the past three weeks as she was my recruiter. So far she has been very helpful with my application process; she has called me once every couple of days to update me on the status of my app. She spent at least 45 minutes on the phone with me answering my questions on orientation, PSD, TnT, and beyond. As far as I can tell, she has been honest and upfront with me. Orientation begins Tuesday so I will have more to say when i get through some of the program.

If you need to get ahold of her, it's best to email her or request her to call you: I don't think she checks her voice mail.

They're all extremely busy... voice mail is probably the most time intensive way to deal with contacts for them. It's just easier for them to deal with email. If you really need to talk to them, it's best to pick a time when you can camp out on hold until you get them.

    BigRigEvan Thanks this.

Thats what I did, I camped on my bluetooth as I was working, kill two bird's, one stone lol. I talked to her for about 20 mins and expressed my concerns of leaving my current job and goin to springfield only to be denied cause of past mistakes on my driving record. She is going to be kind enough to review my application to see if theres any issues. Would it be wise to run a background on yourself? I have no violent history or criminal history.

The recruiters usually go through your driving record and work history before they send you to Springfield. Another way of communicating is through email. My recruiter responded best through email.

Is the $.08 per diam optional?
if it is automatic, do we get that in each paycheck. Or at the end of the year?

It's not optional for company drivers, and it's part of your pay. When you go solo A-seat, most folks are paid 37-cpm plus a 5-cpm bonus for running in a lightweight tractor, plus a variable fuel bonus. Let's ignore the fuel bonus for the time being. Your total compensation then is 42-cpm.

What per diem does (at Prime) is to take 8-cpm of the total and shield it from taxes as a per-diem payment. You're still making 42-cpm on all miles, but 34-cpm of it is paid as taxable income, and 8-cpm of it is paid as a non-taxable per diem payment. You get all of it every week in your settlement. It has upsides and downsides...

Upside... most single drivers don't have enough deductions to itemize their taxes. Thus you get no benefit from the hefty per-diem deduction for transportation workers on your taxes. This is one way of getting that advantage without buying a house. Per-diem is reported on your W2 as non-taxable income thus lowering your AGI... you pay less in taxes at the end of the year.

Downside... it lowers your AGI. That affects things like social security, workman's comp, and, if you want a loan and the banker is an idiot, it lowers your borrowing power.

What Prime gets out of it... it lowers their costs for employing you. That per-diem payment is non-taxable, so among other things it lowers their costs for withholding, their portion of your social security tax, etc. So some folks look at this as a win-win, and it is in terms of your taxes being lower. Other carriers force their drivers to pay them a penny or two per mile for the privilege of having a per-diem program- Prime doesn't, and that's to your advantage. If you go somewhere else, and they force this legal kick-back on you, per-diem rapidly becomes something that costs you.

So can you make money at Prime Inc? I have drove for a while I know a lot of drivers piss off their travel agent and that has a lot to do with it. Just run your load keep the door shut and don't waste money on the road
