I live in Vegas. I run flatbed out of SLC. I was told they have good freight going through that area. If you have your cdl you should be going to SLC for orientation. There isn't a simulator there so be sure you can drive a 10spd. If you fail the road test you will be sent home. I'm on my trainers truck now. I've had a bit of driving elsewhere so I am only required to get 15k ish miles to learn load securement. If you don't have experience then you can expect to drive 30-40k.

I am almost 50 and not sure if I can handle tarping and strapping loads. I really wanted reefer but was told that Prime doesn't hire for reefer division out of my area. Not sure I can do the heavy lifting and booming required...Any thoughts?

Any of you with a recently newer truck get on of those memory foam mattresses that come rolled up when you get it? I have one. If it's cool in the truck it's like laying on a slab of concrete until it warms up . I'd rather have a regular mattress

Reefer division doesn't get out there much, that's why the emphasis on flatbed. It would be difficult for them to get you back there for home time.

Thanks for the info, just kinda funny there is a reefer driver who parks down the street from me twice a week. May have hired on somewhere else and moved, I guess.

my nephew just started with prime, flatbed side .. he was told that the flatbed drivers must pay for all chains , straps and etc as a company driver and then when they are done with prime, that prime may buy it from them ... has anyone ever heard of this crap or are they pulling one over on him ...

Yes you buy your gear, 40 weekly payments, They do that so a driver doesn't sell the stuff at a truckstop and turn it in as stolen.

It's not crap... and it has cut way down on drivers selling company property at the truckstop. It's theirs to do what they want with, including selling it back to the company when they leave or take it with them.
