I have two questions...
1. I start orientation on the 24th can I change the date when I start? My son is having surgery on the 25th and I want to be there.

2. While in training how long does drivers stay out?

 

Call your recruiter and push it back a week... How long out depends on your trainer. 4-6 weeks

 

Like Medic stated on the 1st on, it won't be a problem.
How long a driver stays out depends on the driver, Minimum is 3 weeks, then Prime will OK you going home unless it is an emergency.

 

If you come in as PSD don't expect to be home for at least 6-8 weeks in the beginning. They will tell you that the first day of PSD orientation.

the thinking behind this is to get your CDL and a few weeks of TNT after to strengthen basic skills then home. After that TNT hometime is 3-4 weeks

btw you are not an employee till you get your CDL, you do not accrue hometime till you do. You maybe in the hole on your first hometime, maybe even limit your days home the next few home times based on what you've earned. Remember that, your fleet manager won't forget.

There is a massive exam backlog right now. Expect about two extra weeks of PSD time.

I am amazed at all the great info coming out of this thread and forum. Thanks to all you Prime folks so willing to share. I am sold on Prime as my first choice. I have tried to find definitive answers to the following questions, but not hit them as precisely as I'd like in searches. So, I apologize if these have been answered before and I didn't find them. I am looking to apply as a start from scratch driver, no CDL, only big trucks I've driven were Army up to 5-ton manual and auto. So, no experience at all.
1. I am 58 years old, from what I can tell, my age shouldn't be an issue as long as I pass the physical. Am I correct?
2. I have seen varying things about length of time being unemployed. Before I apply, I want to make sure I am not automatically not considered due to unemployment. I got back from Afghanistan in Oct 2012. I have been unemployed/underemployed since then out of choice, made enough over there to live on when I got home. Went to school for first seven months of 2013 with GI Bill and have had some extra National Guard duty in 2013 and in Jan 2014 that provided income. Now, it is time for me to go back to full-time work. Do you think this will be an issue? Guess I can try and write up my employment history to reflect that I haven't been sitting around doing nothing.
3. What is average time between applying and the date to report to training?

Thanks for your service. Your age shouldn't be an issue.

You've got some gaps there, but your school in '13 plus Guard duty... especially in January should be enough to satisfy the employment criteria. Prime is military-friendly, and you won't have a problem with your NG commitments. The best thing I can say is to call recruiting, make sure you thoroughly explain what you've been doing, and see where it goes.

That'll help... and you'll need to do that for the online application in any case. You'll need that for reference when you do the application again in pen and ink at orientation. They may want to see a copy of your DD-214 as well.

It can be as little as a couple of weeks, depending on how the background and employment verification checks go. All carriers have to be careful about folks whose employment gaps are concealing a driving job that ended badly... tickets, accidents, etc. It's unfortunate for the rest of us, but that's the way it works in the civvy world.

 

what are some reasons recruits dont get pass the face to face interview? im a little nervous about that part and i just have a couple weeks left before i leave for orentation
