Every time I see my paystub, the amount of perdiem is usually equal to or little more than the amount they withhold for taxes. So for me, it's like not paying the tax man ;)

On job history I was asked for my last 3 years the guy I worked under from '10-12 passed away and I drove under his contract so I was paid cash. Will that hurt me on my prime app?

What is the no-touch freight ratio with Prime?

Yes... you have to be able to prove driving employment, and that applies at any carrier. If you don't have tax records of this you're up the proverbial creek.

The recruiters are slammed with applicants. Email is probably the best way to get in touch. If you have to call, be prepared to stay on hold until you get them. Voice mail is the worst way to get in touch. CRE is one of the worst carriers out there... you've been warned!

On the reefer side its pretty much 100% no touch unless you really want to schlep some freight.

They simple version....Per diem is what the IRS allows you to deduct from your gross income each day you are away from home for food, lodging, and in our case showers ;). This is instead of keeping track of all your receipts for the year and adding them up. I think the current IRS code states $53 each day you are away from home and 3/4 of that on your departure and arrival days.

Now with how much fun it would be to go back and look at all of our logs for the year to calculate that the IRS has a special rule for truck drivers that says it can be taken out on a cents per mile basis instead. The catch is, it can't exceed the $53/day. So here at Prime the per diem rate is $0.08/mile. That $0.08/mile is not taxed on your paycheck.

For example, if you get $0.43/mile as your base rate, $0.35/mile will be taxed as regular income while the remaining $0.08/mile you get as per diem and tax free. For me each week with how my w-4 was submitted my per diem amount is usually equal to or greater then my tax withholding.

If you have more dependants, use a higher exemption rate on your w-4, you should make money each week with per diem because the amount of tax withheld is less.

The downside to per diem is that sometimes when you apply for a loan or credit they may not count the per diem amount towards your annual income, but that's only because they loan officer is an idiot. It is income to you at the end of the day. The other downside is the per diem amount doesn't count towards your social insecurity benefits since they don't withhold anything for it.

    I hope that makes sense.

Thank you, for the information. I had a general idea, just not that much in depth knowledge. It's a good fact to know. Plus, I like your disclaimer.
