Oh i read your leasing at prime post i thought maybe you lease purchased the truck you were in at the time you wrote that. I shouldnt have assumed i apologize. Well maybe you listed the details of that lease but i kinda skimmed though it so...

The numbers were so much better buying a truck I have confidence in vs a new lease projected out over a 3-year period that it just made sense. I can do a ton of maintenance on this one and still be way ahead of another 3-year lease even in an Evolution. The third year with no truck payment is all profit. I get the same kind of fuel economy that the Evo's are posting...

"...awww shucks! Ya mean I DON'T get a re-lease bonus?? Dagnabbit!!!"

    :)

Ya that sounds good. So get the truck though pedigree or? You said that the third year was payment free, do you plan on getting another truck at the end of that third year? When i look at my situation i think that o/o would be better for me as well. I was planning on putting money into rental property but the numbers look a little better to me if i put the property off for a couple years and buy a truck. My situation is this i live on next to nothing debt free, i have alot of cash on hand now, by this time next year i could pay cash for 2013 with 200-250k on it, as well a used apu, and carry a 10k reserve. However the are soo many options and ways to go about becoming an o/o. Youve done this successfully and i respect your opinion. Do have any advise that i should consider?

okay guys, sorry I asked , I was just asking. Iknow I grewup and drove in the NE alot and wide tires sucked in the snow. I have been in Flagstaff AZ area for 16 years now and just curious what experiences you all have had with the Super Singles. They look good and can see on wet roads they would be good.

2-year note through Success. I'd want enough in reserve to rebuild the engine or buy a used truck... then it depends on your plans. Leasing to a carrier or getting your own authority? Either way you need enough in reserve to support your personal life for an extended period and finance your business. IMO, factoring bills is a bad plan... like cheap drugs to a junkie.

The do fine in snow. If its that bad out that you're having trouble with singles or duals you either need to throw iron or shut down.

The tires are fine. These are good tires. They will deliver freight in the winter just fine they will also maximize fuel bonus on company drivers and fuel savings on lease ops. Prime has lots of new drivers with no or little winter driving experience running around on singles. We have i think 5000 or so trucks on the road so ya from time to time were gonna be in the news for an accident just due to our shear size.

    azsteve Thanks this.

thankyou guys, not really worried but seeing that truck and had me questioning those tires. More and more guys are going to them it seems so they cant be as bad as I have heard in the past. Your right with the sizeable companies you will see accidents occasionally, hate to hear about them but happens. stay safe and hope to be driving for Prime soon

Thanks for the response. Id like to stay right here if i can, leased on. I like this company ive had a great experience with prime. That said if i ever have or want to go on my own or decide to leave i had planned that i maybe able to establish my auth. by doing power only or logistics(is that what prime calls it) for prime but i dont want to get ahead of myself i realize it takes time. What is a reasonable and of course conservative amount that i can expect to gross annually? Also is my reserve at 10k too low? I should mention i have another 10 on credit. Are you incorporated? I have some questions about an s corp as well if you have the time.

I second ironponys notion about that you have the option to shut down in the winter if you feel that conditions are unsafe. Prime has a captain of the ship policy. That means that you are the captain of the ship and you and you alone can make the call to shut down if you ever feel that conditions are too bad to drive. No one is going to crack a whip at you and force you to drive in adverse conditions. Also those tires are all part the fuel efficiency that prime strives to get. Fuel bonus for a company driver is nothing to sneeze at mine has been well over $100/wks for the past 10-12 weeks. This a good company ive been very happy here and ive also done very well here. Good luck.
