I just want to add my experience with Prime. I drove trucks in the 80s for for three yrs while on layoff from another industry. I retired at age 50, finally finished school and received a degree in electronics, also I am HVAC certified tech. After working in business for myself, did very well for two yrs, the economy tanked I had to sell out and put up my tools for now. I always new I could go back to driving trucks, which always seems to happen to me when the economy is bad. I studied this decision for 6 mo thru this web site. It has been one off the best decisions I have ever made in my working career. Everything that U2, Ironpony, dirtyside and others have said is 100% true. The hard part is getting through instruction period and training can be brutal. Once you get your own truck, which took me 4 mo., my transition was smooth. Prime is hands down the best training company out there. I am company driver in one of the little petes, Im 6'2'' a little cramped but comfortable, no worse than 2 men in a large pete, wish i had an apu so I have to idle. I pretty much stay in the midwest or midsouth. 90% drop and hook, 100% no touch. I stay at 2700-2800 paid mi range, 3500 the most 2300 the lowest. This is a great company to work for. My only complaint would be to get home more often, I do get home every 4 wks some times more, but that choice is mine.
revslev Thanks this. -
I am set for my orientation with Prime on 8 Feb. I have researched all the starter/training companies that intereted me, Prime, Stevens, Central Refer, Swift, Werner, through these forums, conversations at truck stops, and old time drivers that are friends of the family or their friends. Prime wins hands down across the boards as far as I have been able to research. Home time...I'm an old Jarhead so hometime is something I am not really used to anyway. Heck, the last job I had with good old corporate america had me spending most of my time in Arizona, while my house is in Colorado...got home for a week every 6-8 weeks, so 4 or so weeks out looks like a pretty good deal to me.
Anyway, just my thoughts based on my own research. I look forward to the challenge and finally being able to do something I have thought about doing for most of my adult life...
Any trainers out there that may be available end of Feb/Beginning of March let me know... -
Good luck Revslev, You made a good choice, enjoy the ride. You should do very well. Like I said U2, Iron pony and others have givin some very good advice on this site, the information you need is all right here.

Its actually harder to get a "used" truck on a short-term lease than it is to start on a new one.
