Hi everyone!
I'm new to this forum & will be asking all drivers out there some newbie questions over the next few weeks. Thank you in advance for all of your answers.
Here's my first question:
I have a phone interview with Schneider next week about being accepted into their driver training program. In order to maximize my positive impact to my future potential employer, what suggestions do you have for being best prepped for the interview? (I do not currently have a CDL, and this would be my first trucking job.)

get your ten year job history together... company, poc, phone..etc etc..
do not lie..
go to your local DMV and look at your driving record to see if it is clean or any problems
any medical wavers
be prepared to absorb your bills for a month or two... -
What about working for temp agencies, will they need them if you only work there a few weeks

I have had an initial intervew with a Schneider recruiter in which we discusssed my employment history, which was not in the trucking industry. They seemed satisfied with the answers I provided. What would be involved in the second interview?

Getting your CDL permit would show your iniative. Just passing written tests and paying the fees. Believe me, it'll be one less thing to worry about "at school".
Good luck!
Oh, and, "Why do you want to drive over the road...?" -
Munrkr,
In answer to your question, it is my understanding that OTR is the easiest way to get into the industry & establish yourself in the profession. Furthermore, Schneider will advance the money for the CDL. If I commit to one year with the company, (I can stick with any job for one year), then they will charge me $900 for the school. If I stay 18 months, they pay the full tuition. -
I meant to say that the recruiter, is going to ask you that question. So don't be caught of guard. I applied there also and it was the first question he asked. My problem was that the truth of the matter wasit seemed I had little or no alternative but to drive OTR. Of course I realized this probably wasn't what he wanted to hear. Noooooo, maybe something more like, "Ive always dreamed of being a trucker. I'm an independent person that enjoys working long hours, and reaping the reward, etc. Not one to tell anybody what to do, just relating my experience. Good luck!

Thanks munrkr. Good luck to you as well

Schneider promised me a free pair of work boots.
Millis said:
They would guarantee my home time in writing (or pay me an additional five cents a mile if they fail to meet their promise).
I'll get three weeks paid vacation the first year.
I'll average 3200 miles a week at .32 per mile - practical miles.
I believe Millis is the place for me.
