If you haven't heard any of those names, you need to put your jake brakes on and SLOW DOWN before you get stuck with a company like Werner or CR England.

Thank god you found this forum, because I think the guys here are going to give you the help you need before you end up making a terrible mistake like so many others have done

For starters, commit yourself to doing of research about which company you choose. Don't just take the advice of recruiters that answer the company phones...ASK THE DRIVERS here on this forum. They'll tell you the pro's and con's, and whether that company may or may not be right for you.

As for starter companies, the worst of the worst are:
    CR England
    Werner
    JB Hunt
    Prime
    Swift.

Those are the 5 worst that I've read about on this forum. Finding a good review on one of those companies can sometimes be like finding a needle in a haystack. There are atleast 10 bad reviews for every one good review. These companies pay the lowest in the industry, have extremely high turnover, among tons and tons of other problems. That's not to say that you cant be successful with any of those companies, but hey, lets face it, how much bull-#### and stress are you willing to go through for that success?

What area of the USA do you live in? Are you looking for dedicated routes, or OTR? Do you want to drive team or solo? Do you want to pull a van, reefer, or flatbed? How much hometime do you require?

Answer those questions and the members could probably point you in better directions :)

DONT FORGET...READ AS MUCH OF THIS FORUM AS YOU CAN BEFORE MAKING A DECISION. RESEARCH THESE COMPANIES, DONT GET SCAMMED BY CROOKS!

hi. i am pre-hired by all mega-carriers, just waiting on bp to regulate and the gov't to issue HME before i commit to the $ for my refresher course.

one quick thing. i had a recruiter, one of my first pre-hires from late august, state "well, i really need to get to the next caller" !!! carrier = werner

i was asking intelligent questions, as this isnt my first rodeo. that really told me something.

have you thought of con-way truckload?

I suggest anyone thinking of joining Werner to simply search this forum for "werner" and you will probably change your mind within a matter of just a few horror stories.

I haven't done any research on Con-Way, but I have read a few good compliments about them from a few people on this forum.

I would imagine that Werner knew you were experienced enough to see through their bull-#### and decided not to waste any more time on you :)

Con-Way truckload looks good. I almost went there instead of Roehl. I can't speak on any of those companies you listed except Roehl since it's the only one I've worked at. The pay is good, the equipment is good, and the miles are there. When I started here I was in refrigerated. Since then, I've also pulled vans, curtainsides, and for the last 11 months, flatbeds. That's what I really like about Roehl. When I get bored with one division I can always switch it up and do something else.

As far as decent starter companies, I hear good things about Millis, Roehl, and Stevens. Of course you can find horror stories with all those companies also, but not nearly as many as Werner or CR England or Swift

I've been researching for some time prior to going to school because knowledge is power. It is the the naive that fall into the traps of those looking for plunder. I intend not to be one of them.

That being said, I have learned that in order to become a truck driver you have to initially choose your "starter company" which you MUST remain with at least one year or you could very well become "black balled" in this industry. So choosing that 1st company is very critical. Every company has some good points. Even the "Werners" and "JB Hunts" of this world. However, as previously pointed out and shown in many different areas the THE TRUCKERS REPORT, companies like Werner, CR England, Swift and several others have a terrible history of a great deal of negatives.

The overall opinion that I have come to appreciate is that the following companies are decent enough to start with for your 1st year and don't have an overwhelming amount of negatives about them. (all companies are going to have their negatives)

    TMC
    ROEHL
    SCHNEIDER
    CRETE

I'm sure that others can add to this list but as already pointed out... DON'T LISTEN TO JUST ONE PERSON'S OPINION! DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND DO IT THOROUGHLY! :biggrin_25525:
