Fleets with a couple of hundred trucks need a higher net per mile per truck than fleets with several thousand trucks . Smaller carriers will never be able to operate at the cutthroat rates the megacarriers charge .

You are correct. I have a good friend who runs shipping & receiving at a plastics plant. She told me every truck that is there more than 2 hours gets paid detention. And those dollars are something she has to keep in check to keep her job.

i don't think it's just the pay ALONE. it's how long we are allowed to work also. such as the HOS rules.

I just dont get it. These bottom feeders want to keep a revolving door of rookies and pay them peanuts. Give them 10 cents per mile more, and I bet your turnover rate will be cut in half. Lower turnover rate=happier employees who go on to become more seasoned drivers. Plus you dont have to pay for training over and over and over........

These training companies want a revolving door cause they get a big tax break for each student, and these new drivers got clean csa scores, and they can pay the newbe's 30 cpm. It's a win, win, win for these companies. And don't forget each student pays around $3000.00 to get the training. There making big bucks keeping the revolving door.

bringing in a driver with no CSA score does not improve your CSA score. A driver with no experience is probably more likely to raise your score than a driver that knows what their doing.

There are tax incentives for these companies to take advantage of when hiring new workers and retaining them for a year. The companies have made this a part of their business equation, therefore expect and welcome constant turnover so they can rack up more tax credits each year and still get some freight hauled at the same time by cheap labor.

Ok then humor me...... why do they keep the turnover high? It's over 100% in a local tanker fleet. ( common carrier ) They must know the answer..... it was talked about at the last ATA convention.......

Beats me, turnover is high for a lot of reasons. I don't pay much attention to the ATA or transportation topics for the most part. The industry as whole is so divided and political it's ridiculous. Just like most of society it would probably be a good idea to take a step back and look at what would be a change for the greater good, not for one's personal gain.
