Wow. Again, I am in shock! The "boss" is monitoring social sites for information that might affect their compay?! Do any of you really think that an employer is NOT watching social sites for posts that contain their company, their supervisors or the pages of their employees?! Really?!

I've been in this business for a long time and just from my own perception of the trucking industry, " there ain't no real driving job out there that includes recruiters or orientation."123456 Thanks this.

Bigrigdriver1, you gotta research many companies and find the pros and cons of each and see what works best for you. Fill out applications and be sure to ask as many questions as possible. All companies have they're good and bads about them. After all my reserch I found what's best for me is a smaller carrier. Good luck in your decision.

all trucking companies are a joke, they control you you dont control them, they are the ones and only the ones who know how many miles you are going to run, they control how much you make not you...........................
-
Yes, they are the employer and you are the employee. However it's typically not intentional when miles are bad. Trucking companies want you to do what is going to earn the most money for them, this is typically using all of your hours up. If you aren't being utilized fully their is either a problem with the company, or with your time management, or both. While you can't control how many miles you'll get, or your dwell time, you can control your communication with the company. Let them know what is happening as soon as possible. Tell them if you experience a delay. Let them know if the customer isn't loading/unloading your in a timely fashion. The more you work the better it is for you and the company.

Someone suggested to me once to sit down with a blank sheet of paper and start writing down those things that would make your perfect job. All the things you want. Then, in a separate section or opposite side, those things that you will not do. Then, srart doing your research...and as stated, ask questions.
I just hope you lnow what you're getting into. This business isn't for everyone! Keep in mind, that if you are talking to a "head-hunter"(someone that does not work directly for the company that is hiring you), they are going to tell you what ever you want to hear. When reading various message boards, don't believe EVERYTHING you read (not that they are NOT a good resource, but things do tend to get embellished).
Good luck! The first few years can be a little tricky. The sooner you learn your limitations the better. Greasy-side down!
