I started in a warehouse then moved to box truck deliveries for the past 8yrs. I got my CDL permit several months ago. The local delivery company I work for has allowed me time with one of their big rig drivers to accumulate the hours I need to take driving part of CDL. I've been waiting a long time to get my last 15 hours in. Is there someplace else I can go or someone I can pay for supervising me and using their truck for at least 15 hrs behind the wheel? I live in Sherwood, Oregon

Need advice...I already have my class A license but my only experience was 6 months as a hot shot operator (1 ton pulling 40ft GN). I did both oilfield and basically
OTR out of the truck and have traveled from coast to coast and to Canada.

I'm now thinking that I want to drive flatbed, but don't have air brake endorsement. I loved the hot shot gig, but due to health issue had to quit for a while.

    Any advice?

I start training with Roadmaster Sat 17th of March.2012. Is this a good school to get my CDL with? Also I hear so many horror stories about some of the companies that hire from Roadmaster. Companies like Werner, Stevenson, US Express, Knight transport. Is this a thing where you make the best of the situation and take it as face value? Do you take the first job offer that comes? I need some direction here.

Hi Harvey Wallbanger. I am a wannabe about to attend trucking and Heavy equipment operator school in LA at College of Instrument Technology in Bellflower. I have recieved funding for the $8K school and will not have to pay back a dime due to funding and being laidoff from my last job and Veteran status. After the 2 & 1/2 month program I will have class A CDL, OSHA Certifications, Forklift, Backhoe & Forklift Certified, Tie down certified, & Hazmat testing and spill cleanup, OSHA Confined space. The program is 240 hours minimum. My question is "Will I be experienced enough with this school Certifications to Jump right into a Long Haul Cross country driving job straight out of school?" I want to drive routes up and down west coast to Alaska from Los Angeles and also Los Angeles to Dallas where I have family. Do you think this will be a quick possibilty? I appreciate any info you may have for me. I am 48 and looking forward to making this my career for the remainder of my working life if I don't move into management with a trucking company before retirement age. Any opinions or advice? Thanks Much Wannabe about to go big time!

you will have to go OTR with another driver for anywhere between 3-5weeks depending on the carrier. Every carrier will make you do this due to insurance
