I'm not sure if they're still doing it, but a few years back Werner had a lot of ads out telling veterans to use you GI Bill for one year of on the job training. At a company like Werner, your GI bill will pretty much be your ONLY income. Just read the other threds here on Werner if you think I'm blowing smoke.
Werner's training is worthless, and if you get fired by no fault of your own you are screwed, no one else will accept the training. It is proven that these big companies have a scam with the US Government, they get roughly $5,000 to $10,000 of taxpayer money for every student they put through training. Werner is not the only one involved in this scam, most of the large outfits are (Roehl, Swift, USA Truck, England, Knight, etc)
I think it is one of the most terrible and dishonorable things we can do to those who have served our country. I've talked to a few Swift and Werner Trainees who were Iraq war veterans, most of them said they had better treatment over there in the sandbox. One guy was even going to quit as soon as he could get the truck home to re-enlist.
If you want to use your GI Bill for truck driver training, use it at a technical college where you won't be bound or penalized by any one company for tuition. This is the route I went in 2003, and it couldn't have worked out better. Don't find out the hard way like many veterans and non veterans alike do.
DO NOT BE SCAMMED!!!
Attention all veterans of the us armed forces-- do not be fooled!!!

http://www.werner.com/content/res/drv/apprentice/va/vabenefits/
Recent graduates from Truck Driving School
Experienced drivers with limited driving experience
Drivers must be an employee of Werner Enterprises to participate in the Apprenticeship program and receive VA Educational Benefits.
How the VA Educational Benefit Money Works:
Paid from the Dept. of Veteran Affairs directly to the driver.
Once employed at Werner, it takes the VA roughly 90 days to determine eligibility and issue a check.
Paid monthly in arrears, based on a 30 day month.
If only part of a month is worked, benefits are pro-rated.
The first check will more than likely be retroactive, therefore a larger amount.
Pay depends on the category a person fits in, but is all TAX FREE.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Before applying to any school or Community College for training...I would suggest contacting the the Department of Veterans Affairs

So werner will had out the normal $200-400 per week Mc Donald's level paychecks while you waste your GI Bill and tax payer money working for an underpaid company. Use the GI Bill while in college, not at Werner.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
well I just used my gi bill for swift.... We will see how that works out

You should be able to use your GI-Bill in an accredited school.
You can get Pell grants, guaranteed student loans etc at an accredited school.
Just not at any of these BS CDL mills. Including Swift, Werner, Central, England, Stevens, etc, etc.. -
well the memphis school is approved by the tn va office..... I'll let you all know how that works out.... Not to bash... But already looking around at other companies... Wanting to go flatbed and eventually get my own truck.... But hey,got to start somewhere. And except for a couple of brand new trailers, every one of them have some kind of damage from people that can't drive. I am a rookie I know,so I'm the one that pisses people off by taking ramps way slower than I have to and will take the time to look at what I'm doing when I'm backing... Yes I take a long time to back, but I got a wife and kids to support and that extra 30 seconds migt be what keeps a roof over their head.... And the school.... I will be the first to admit a lot of the people that made it through should not have... But the trainers need their bonuses too apparently.
