Meh, mine's from Straight Talk.
But people do this? OH COME ON, who would illegally download A PROGRAM? -
apparently it's not illegal. or verizon wouldn't have gotten the fine.
aiwiron Thanks this. -
I have no clue about all this high tec stuff, just really upgraded to a smart phone a couple months ago.
-
Just read about this. Pretty amazing since I still have the unlimited plan.
-
What kind of phone needs an app to tether? the cheap ones?
-
to tether means to use your phone as an internet modem. android phones come with the capability to be used as a wifi hotspot also. and whatever other brand. meaning more then one device can use your phone to access the internet. via wifi capabilities.
the old style of tether was basically plug your phone into the usb port on your computer. and you were connected using the usb wire. so, only your computer could access the internet.
today. just about everything has a wifi built in. right down to your xbox.
so tether basically means ANY phone.
and what do you consider CHEAP. cuz there are android and other phones that can be had for free. any model that is soon to be discontinued can basically be had cheap or free.
now if your talking the basic phone that does nothing but talk and text. those are called symbian phones. and nokia stopped development on that operating system last year. meaning, you won't be able to buy a basic phone before long. being as the wave of the future is internet capable phones.
and in 2 months. the computer will start to become obsolete as microsofts new operating system is geared for tablets and phones. it totally sucks for computer use. speculation would be that microsoft is gearing for the demise of the home computer as we've come to know it for the last 20 years. thanks to the tablet.
what has happened is that people don't feel like they should pay extra to use features they already have. since people started using there phones as a modem. (i've been doing it since 1999). the carriers have decided to add an additional fee. sprint hasn't been as greedy as the others and they haven't pushed the issue. but verizon with there money hungriness wants every buck they can get out of us. and does everything they can to block people from doing what verizon doesn't want us to do. needless to say. people have found ways around the system. they have proved that blocking apps isn't going to stop them.
verizon does provide there own hotspot app on the phone. and if you use it. it automatically adds the pricing to your bill. it's basically another $30 that no one wants to pay. and for a limited amount.
sprint only charges $10 for the feature. and it's all unlimited.
some of you would say that's illegal. the fcc says otherwise. and others don't want to be feeding the bank more then they have to. specially considering that verizon is the most expensive carrier with att being a close second.
this is not the first and only suit against verizon. the fcc has others. and it all basically comes down too the expensive price gouging verizon is doing.
i paid sprint $90 to have all the unlimited everything i want. when i signed up with verizon it was going to cost $200. and still not have unlimited anything.Last edited: Jul 31, 2012

So let me get this right I can now tether with my iPhone for free?
What sux about Verizon is I got my IPhone after they hit rid of the unlimited Internet. My kids had smart phones before me and are grandfathered in. The first few months I had 2 gigs and I went over I had to upgrade to 5 gigs but hat seems to much now. Maybe if I could use my computer with it it would be worth it. -
Its nice to know that i can tether for free if i choose to do so, however im paying $20 a month to tether, and i get an extra 2GB data with it, so i may as well keep my tether plan. Maybe when i quit truck driving and dont need all this data i will use a tether app.

Heh.. I've been doing this since I got my first Droid I, and Verizon has been silent on the matter. I think they knew this day was coming and that they were running afoul of their C spectrum licensing agreement with the FCC.
xlsdraw Thanks this.
