Heads up, drivers. If you've been thru OK between Tulsa and OKC in the past 5 months, you know the Midway service stop near Stroud on the Turner Turnpike (aka I-44) going westbound has been under [re]construction (along with seemingly half of this state—but that's a different conversation). They SAID the truck parking was to be closed, but it's still accessible, just not as roomy.

That said, what's left of the actual c-store itself (and most likely the fuel isles) is set to close permanently as of July 15. The entire plaza is being rebuilt, truck parking and all, so if you're headed westbound from Tulsa toward OKC, better fuel up (and plan ahead accordingly) before heading out of Tulsa.

Westbound Turner Turnpike service plaza to close through Fall 2025

As for alternatives coming thru Tulsa (and by the way, there's heavy construction just east of where the 44 junctions with the 244, so BE CAREFUL AND SLOW DOWN going thru there):

    - There's a pretty decent-size QuikTrip truck stop just before the aforementioned junction coming into town from the east on I-44 at x238 (165th Ave). If any of you drive for Melton, their home base is just up the street from there.

    - Many of you may already know about the Flying J just past the 44/244 split. If you don't, do yourself a favor and stay out of there. You may find yourself doing a 30 just trying to even get to the fuel aisle, much less trying to wiggle your way out of there.

    - There's a QuikTrip truck fuel stop on the southwest side of town off the I-44 at x222. It's small, but surprisingly it doesn't back up too much. Forget about overnight parking there, though.

At the expense of costing my own self a potential weekend parking spot (ha!), if for some reason you happen to be coming thru Tulsa via I-244 west, QuikTrip also just opened a new truck fuel stop, albeit small, at the Yale Avenue exit (x10 if you need a number). Be warned, though, that the right turn from Yale onto Admiral Pl to get to can get tight if you don't get far enough left before the turn....there's a light pole pretty much right on the curb there. Getting out of there is pretty easy, though. Stay all the way left out the exit and you'll clear the curb to the right. Make a left at Yale and another left to go back eastbound, or stay straight through the light to return westbound.

    - If you absolutely MUST park overnight in Tulsa, there's an industrial park area near that QT on the southwest corner that you can access via 51st street. From I-44 east or westbound, take the exit for the Gilcrease Parkway north; the 51st street exit will be the very next exit. (Its a short off-ramp, though, so watch it.) Turn right, then left at the light onto 51st. Go past S 49th West, then make the next left onto S 48th West (please pay attention to these numbered street names; Tulsa's numbered street naming convention will mess you up quick.) You can park right on the street on S 48th West, W 49th, or S 45th West and no one will bother you; just don't block any driveways and for God's sake don't leave any trash! You can turn right back into W 51st to get back to the Gilcrease Parkway and I-44 West or East.

Reporting live from west Tulsa...hope this helps!

I stayed at Big Cabin yesterday because there's nothing westbound after that. It's easier just to get up in the middle of the night than deal with Tulsa and OKC at normal evening time.
