I think Companies are getting the picture now . . .the internet has provided us Drivers with a very great tool for helping each other make better decisions of where we are to offer our services.
Companies . . .you have to change! You cannot treat people like dogs! You will do well if you treat people well, treat them bad and you will suffer for it . . .It's just the way it works . . .Yes, I know that Drivers must strive to achieve the same thing. We must be Honest, trustworthy, reliable, knowledgable, professional, courteous etc. but if we are doing our best, will you also do your best to achieve the same??
I can understand fairness, and the usual firing of folks for one infraction or another. But a lot of the complaints that I am hearing from the driver side are things that are just outright mean and abusive- the driver warranted no such treatment. If you kick a Driver for no reason, other than selfish personal reasons, how prosperous do you think the Company that you "care about" will become?
With the new forums and internet information outlets it is obvious that Drivers will research you prior to walking in your door. What will they find? Shameful testimony regarding you? Let's turn the tables- Do you research a driver prior to hiring him? YES . . .You do . . .and when you find "shameful testimony" regarding him, will you hire him? You won't enter into a relationship with us if you find problems based on "information" that you gather- then, why would you protest Drivers that do the same regarding you? It's fair right? You had better learn to love fairness and people-otherwise your ship will sink . . ..Takes a bit of humility doesn't it? Takes a little effort to swallow that stubborn pride-try it- it really will benefit both you (company) and the Driver! And drivers-just be good and do the best job you can and return the respect . . .

We might need to look at it differently than just a "wage" than . . and I think that this forum will be the place that our relationship (not wage) will improve. If we first mend our relationship, than it makes sense that a better wage would follow right?
We have to mend what was lost. The only way to do that is by speaking to the companies from our hearts, i.e. what we feel, and bring possible solutions to our very poor relations instead of problems. But, the company has to have a true "open door" policy in practice and not just in word . . ..
We drivers have said to companies "hey, were not being treated fairly" and the most prominent response would be indifferent or retaliatory at best.We come to them very informally, often with no malice or ill-intention and this "open door" is actually a steel vault in which no one can enter . . .What are we supposed to think then, if the company shows this kind of weakness and distrust on such a small matter as this?
It just creates a seperation between "us" and "them" . ...In actuality, there really is no seperation as we all work towards a "profitable" means for the same company but the company has set up a barrier and I often wonder as to why the company thinks this is a good idea . . ..that this seperation will bring something good . . If companies want seperation to that degree, than why hire us in the first place? You have to see what we see . . and how senseless it seems . . .If you married someone, and put these business practices into your marriage, how far would you go in your marriage?

You can sit here all day and tell a noobie about CRE...

    30 days later,

Sure enough, that same noobie will be right here,

telling us how bad CRE is !!!!!

I get your point, and hope you are right !!!

Sure things are going to change. The big companies are going to get bigger, and it'll be increasingly difficult for the smaller companies to do business. More responsibilities will be dumped onto drivers without any corresponding increase in pay. Drivers will come under increasing scrutiny and regulation by their companies and the FMCSA; the job will have less "independence" every day.

The one thing that won't change is that drivers will keep churning through the industry, and there'll be a big pool of new candidates to keep filling the need.

Good post wpuckett. Companies who treat the employee's badly thrive in a bad economy where big unemployment numbers are steady for long periods of time. Its incentive for them to become even more abusive and greedy because of the sheer number of people entering this industry for lack of anywhere else to go. Very little to nothing will change until employment drops a lot and and workers are no longer attracted to this industry.

I understand your ideas but some of your assumptions about truck drivers are sugar coated. I would not invite 30% of truck drivers into my home. They are far from honest, trustworthy, reliable, courteous or stand up citizens of the community. Hey, its a fact, sad but true. Also, what % of the negative posts about companies are accurate? Many are from hot headed drivers that just got fired for very legitimate reasons and just want to get back at the company. Or the companies that get just as many positive posts as negative? The other problem is the never ending line of wannabees at mega carriers wanting the 'dream'. They can read all day long how bad a company is and walk straight in their door and sign on the dotted line. Even experienced drivers beleive they know better and ignore the warnings and sign on the same dotted line. So while I respect your ideas and motivation, it will be almost impossible to accomplish. Internet forums about bad trucking companies are now commonplace with thousands of negative posts on these carriers, these same companies are still very successful, still making millions. Its a BB gun against a grizzly.

See? My point exactly based on your words-you say you wouldn't invite 30 % into your home but you will certainly hire the same to drive your truck . . is this responsible hiring practice? You judge the man then put him in a place that you yourself admit is in ways, substandard . ..and you tie "success" directly to the amount of money a company makes . . .this is what I'm talking about . ..all these mega-carriers believe in this "money equates success" scenario . . .I give you Bernie Madoff . . .Is he also "Successful?"
