PLEASE DON'T DISCUSS EASY WAYS TO DISABLE A STOPPED TRUCK

I watched this video (at bottom of post) where attorney Andrew Branca discusses several important issues related to protestors blocking streets, rioters surrounding vehicles, firearms. I believe his practice focuses on self-defense cases. He carries a gun daily and he defends gun owners after a self-defense situation. This video is mostly about drivers of vehicles and mobs. The first hour is the one that matters.
Here are some of the points I thought were important and my summary, not his. I'm no lawyer. You make decisions for you.

    1. If you hope to stay out of prison after running over rioters blocking the streets collect media reports, videos, social media reports of these events where innocent drivers are surrounded and threatened or horribly injured and store them in a folder on your phone or computer now. Doing so BEFORE THE INCIDENT will document why you interpreted being surrounded by rioters/protestors as a threat to your life. You don't have to document every previous event you remember. You need to document SOME events in different locations, especially if you are an out of state tuck driver. I would suggest collecting videos and news stories about other truck drivers getting tangled up in mobs since we are truck drivers.

2.If you are surrounded by a mob, in or out of your vehicle, and a few of them attack you, it is NOT a 1 vs 4 fight, for example. For all you know it is a you vs all of them conflict because you don't know how many people are going to participate. For all you know, if it turns violent EVERYONE will be attacking you. That goes to why you might be using deadly force.

    3. The rioters will be videoing everything so if you defend yourself and go to court there will be video evidence from the rioters that shows their behavior in the best possible perspective. Your spoken version of what happened without video may be considered weak, especially in a city or state friendly to riots in the streets. Your dashcam, driver cam, city & business videos in the area need to get requested ASAP if something happens. Call the cops ASAP, they will be calling the cops on you.

    4. Your vehicle is more effective weapon than most any handgun. Stay in your vehicle, NO. MATTER. WHAT. If the rioters turn violent drive your way to safety, traffic lines, stoplights, sidewalks, etc are all lesser suggestions in a life or death situation. It would almost never be better to have a shoot out than to drive away.

    5. The rioters see you and the police as literally the worst people in all of history and are prepared to do whatever it takes to remove "the worst people on earth" out of the way. They are not blocking street to have a discussion or hear your point of view.

    6. Once you are stopped in a truck you are very very vulnerable to mob attack.

One thing to add on the handgun thing. IF you end up in a situation where you are forced to use it. The mob WILL kill you. These terrorists already consider you an enemy. As soon as you injure or kill one. The second you are out of ammo. You will be pulled from your rig. You will be beaten to death and there is not one #### thing you can do about it.

If you employ a firearm, then at that point your only hope is it clears enough terrorists away from you vehicle to get it moving again. And even then if they werent already, expect them to firebomb you. Maybe even pipe bombs or worse.

Im as pro 2A as they come. But be aware a mob is not 1 thug in a back ally. Its hundreds, thousands, potentially tens of thousands. Unless you have a maduce mounted in your sleeper with belts of ammo we are unaware of. You dont have enough ammo to deal with the mob. They know it too.

This is pure fear-mongering. There were no truck drivers injured during the protests after George Floyd’s death (there were two major incidents: there was one protester who foolishly got killed when he was trapped between a set of doubles in St Louis, and some folks injured by a moving truck in Minneapolis.

And earlier, in the riots after the Rodney King verdict, there was one truck driver, Reginald Denny, who was attacked and severely beaten.

So no truck drivers died, meanwhile, there are approximately 3.6 million professional truck drivers in the USA today. So the odds of death are practically zero, and of harm one in 3.6 million.

An average of 270 Americans are struck by lightning every year, with 27 dying, so you’re likelier to get struck by lightning, and much likelier to die from it, than from any civil disturbance.

Particularly if you have ANY situational awareness. Don’t drive into crowds and avoid places where protests are happening. I have family in Los Angeles who just shake their heads over the media exaggeration last week, they said that 99% of L.A. was just business as usual.

You realize things are changing? Democrats, the media encouraging more violence every day. My home state, people my sister knew were murdered this last week. For not being as far left as Democrats demand.
You mention Reginald Denny. Just “severely beaten.”
Let’s see. “As a result of the injuries he suffered during the attacks, Denny had to undergo years of rehabilitative therapy, and his speech and ability to walk were also permanently damaged” People take for granted walking without pain, discomfort. For last 30 years every step has been in discomfort. First dozen in pain.
Mobs are more violent. When they wear masks they feel free to hurt safe in mobs anonymity.
You are facing possibly rabid animals. They care nothing for the cause. They love the freedom to act without consequences. Avoid if possible. But be ready to put foot on go pedal, hand on horn, try to avoid as much as possible. If they send a danger would allow deadly force with firearm. Why not whatever you are driving.

Times are not changing. They are the same as they've ever been. The worst you will ever see is protesters blocking a road. If you don't try to commit mass murder by driving through them, they won't bother you. If you're worried about your safety then don't be a truck driver because it's one of the most dangerous jobs in the US. It's more dangerous to be a truck driver than a cop.

Lots of things more dangerous then being a Police Officer. Just depends how you figure it. Of course things are changing. Unless you are under 40 you should be able to see it. *ok 20 yr olds can see it* ;)
You clearly did not comprehend the level of danger BEFORE deadly force can be used. A line of sign waving idiots does not rise to that level. Tossing bricks off overpass, bats breaking parts off truck, threats of death.. yep I will keep moving. Hand on horn, trying not to hit anyone. But I will defend myself.

    This begs an interesting question.

Who is in a position to refuse a load on that basis and how many actually have?

I just stocked a bunch of extra magazines in the truck safe this week as well as extra ammo and ordered new locks for the tool box and trailer,

hopefully it’s just adding to the tare weight

It depends on your perspective. A person is more likely to experience political violence today (mostly from the right), but significantly less likely to be kidnapped and beaten to death for being gay or dragged behind a truck for being black.

Overall, we are living in one of the safest times in American history, but that's not the narrative coming from certain groups who want you to be afraid.
