I didn't realize truckers' personal items got searched so much. Do they also do pat downs of you as well, empty out your pockets, and/or make you walk through machines too like at airports?

They will search your truck at the Baltimore Marine Terminal as well, understandably too...They have a man walk your trailer checking floor boards and walls(I guessed for compartments) and a dog for the tractor, I had to open my door so the dog could stand on step and sniff but he never went inside...Not sure whether that was a good sign or not LOL I imagine if he alerted they would have let him loose in there...

dont need a warrant for a vehicle, just probable cause. which im not sure if refusing a search then gives probable cause anyway? hahaha

Refusing a search is NOT probable cause and this has been upheld by the supreme court. No one is searching my truck without a warrant.

I just say, "Officer, I have no contraband in my vehicle or on my person. I would let you see for yourself, but human rights are like brain cells and muscles. If ya don't use them, you will lose them. So respectfully, I am exercising my 4th ammendment rights."

:glasses7:If you are arrested, or your truck is impounded for any reason, an inventory can be performed on your vehicle by the officer. That gives them a reason to go into your truck right there.
Sometimes wrecker drivers request an inventory by LEO before towing a vehicle to impound yard.
Not sure if this is still done, but I have been involved with this before.:pottytrain1:

Probable cause does not allow them to search a vehicle. Probable cause is used to get the search warrant. No warrant, no search unless the vehicle is getting impounded.

I always laugh my butt off watching COPS and traffic stops...
Officer: Mind if I search your vehicle?
Driver: No officer, go right ahead.
    WRONG answer! lol
