I was wondering if any of you guys and gals carry occupational/workman's comp on yourselves.
Is that insurance necessary if you have your authority?

A lot of us do. Own authority or leased. Some states require it, some don't.
-
I carry it. It's really not that expensive. I feel like it's worth it to have.
-
I am in Pa. Maybe someone knows if it is required here.
I am asking about this because I have been looking at the cost of leasing on vs. authority. Bobtail + occupational is about $3500 or so per year.
So if if I got my authority, that $3500 could be put toward the insurance. If I then put 4 to 5 thousand down on the insurance, my costs are not that much more than leasing on. Then I could add it on the following year.
I am still working on my plan, but does that make sense? -
That quote seems awfully high. My bobtail is 20 bucks a month and my occ/acc is under 150/month.

I guess it's possible that it's high. The quote was from first guard. I had them when I was leased on hauling containers a few years ago. Then it was a little over a thousand per year for bobtail. Now it is about 1400. The occupational was 160 per month. That's 3320 so I rounded up to 3500.
