The West is currently in idle mode, practically nonoperating. Reefer loads are going for less than $2.25/mi, dry-van is getting hit hard too!! It's a brokers market and authority operators are getting short-changed. Will there be a time when all authority operators standup for themselves? Fuel, insurance, and authority cost are only going up! What is killing the market you ask??? Companies taking the low-balling loads!!! There's always that "GUY" that takes the crappy paying load...why???? We use three different load boards and it's the same song and dance...plus the cost of those are going up too!

What would happen to the broker companies if authority operators stopped taking their loads for pennies to the dollar??? They would be forced to pay a decent rate!!

What would happen to the ignorant people that work at the warehouses either loading or unloading the freight?? I say ignorant because they treat us as if we are low-class people to them! They forget we are the reason they have clothes on their backs, food on their tables, and all of life necessities and luxuries!! ALSO and most importantly, without us, those ignorant people would NOT have a job! Someone needs to remind them of that!! SO yes Karen, I need my paperwork now so I can continue to be a hero and move on to my next load!!

If you don't like it you have to get into a different industry.

General Freight hauling you're going to get paid based on the volume of loads and the demand because of economy or whatever else. When the economy tanks when ships don't come in when people aren't optimistic when companies aren't buying more inventory there's less Freight.

And by the way there is no safety net. The market will allow that price to go down to Pennies if someone is willing to work for that.

And the funny thing about Trucking is even when the market conditions are better and trucks are needed... the upside of the up I don't think is that far up. There are some people that do Niche work or something like that or specialty stuff maybe they can do better but generally it's just not that great of a business in my own humble opinion.

If you don't like it go do something else.

People have been trying to get drivers to ban together to stop some sort of perceived injustice since at least the 1980s. Never have been able to gain any traction, and the climate today to organize that sort of thing is worse than it has ever been.

I got $2.38 SoCal to PA and $3.51 down to Florida..dry van.
Nothing wrong with rates but definitely something wrong with fuel prices.

The rates from the last two years were an anomaly, driven by consumers handed “free” money by our government. Those rates aren’t coming back anytime soon..

Rates are actually better than when I jumped in with my own truck.. Sure, I have to put more effort into the search..along with a few tricks.

You’re treated like trash only because you allow yourself to be. There’s a few forum members that know me personally and will vouch that I run short on patience.. I’m always prepared to walk and don’t take poop from anyone. On the other hand, I’ll do anything for anyone..talk down to me and it’s over.

Shippers/ Receivers that take super long to get you down the road.. Targets for example, I love them. “Take your time, I’m in no rush today” that’s what I tell them. I took the load only because I’ll get paid $40 per hour to sleep..

For the most part, everyone I deal with is pleasant. Just treat them like you like to be treated. Honestly, I talked about this with a receiver who was just tired of dealing with drivers that don’t know how to communicate in English.

Lastly, don’t worry about what others are are running for. Some are likely just fighting to survive and feed their families.. Maybe that cheap load someone took was to get them home for an emergency or just to get a break from the road.

The other day, I had to explain it to a certain receiving fellow ,who I had a concrete conversation with after he handed me back poorly signed BOL, that his legible signature on the BOL was of utmost importance to me. I demanded it firmly. I guess, too firmly to his liking.
He might have sensed my accent and started his rant about non Americans driving trucks giving him problems, implying the plural 3rd person to mean me (I do have the citizenship).
I told him that nobody prevents anybody to drive trucks and CDL schools don't require high school diplomas and that his job as a receiver is to acknowledge the receipt of the goods I delivered.
I might have behaved imposing, but he was half my age, and I too won't let a millennial think that I am his buddy to talk to me like that.
If I have a fleet, or a grocery stand, I don't want that guy to work for me.

Poorly English speaking drivers are taking the CDL jobs because they are available, and perhaps less problematic than that youngster. I'd rather deal with someone who I communicate with a sign language than a spoiled brat who thinks he does me a favor signing BOL properly.

You and I have a slightly different work environment. I absolutely will not have anyone working for me or even around me that cannot speak and understand English.
It's mostly a safety thing. If I need to warn you of something rolling down a hill or falling out of the sky I don't have time to find an interpreter.
We have a sign on the gate to our place. It says "English only spoken beyond this point". A lot of people have complained about that sign. Most of them had an accent and, until they realized we were serious, wouldn't speak English.
Drivers who can't communicate in English are a hazard. They're also a PITA.

There are different levels of language fluency and comprehension.
I don't advocate allowing to hire drivers below minimum communication standards required by DOT.

Your sign is also a sign of hostility and while I would certainly use English to speak with you, I don't see why I could not speak another language to someone else, a friend or a child.
Of course, not in some conspicuous or distracting others manner.
You can have your sign at your place and I would honor it by not stepping my foot in it but if you were to tell me to speak English only in another neutral place, while I communicate in another language with someone, I'd tell you that this is a free country.

Hostility? Not at all. It's just the way that things work best in that particular place and time. If a person doesn't feel he can abide by our rules he's certainly free to go somewhere else. That's America, Joe. America at it's finest.
