I'm surprised that there is no threads on this one. Well, at least a search for 'auto haul' or 'car haul' didn't turn up anything. So I was Looking at an ad for Waggoners Trucking. Then I decided to do a search here. Nothing came up. This sums up what I am looking for:

    - What carriers companies do this?
    - What kind of pay to expect?
    - Is it seasonal?
    - information about companies that hire student drivers or new drivers a plus.

    Please advise with some insight.

There's a few guys here who haul cars, I'm sure you'll be hearing from them soon.

My dh drives OTR for Tri-Star (parent company is PMTG). The type of truck he drives is an enclosed car carrier...one of those beasts with 2 enclosed trailers & a tailcone sticking out the back and it's about 900 feet long. His truck is old...the new guys get the crappy ones...no sleeper, but he sometimes likes having a real bed to sleep on every night. ;) He's been there since the end of October. He had to have 2 years general driving experience, his DAC was nice and clean. He was in training for about a total of a week and a half. The training was specifically for loading/unloading...even though if you ask me they should put these guys in one of those oversized parking lots and give them a feel for it BEFORE they just give them the keys and say 'good bye'. :biggrin_25517:

I've heard that there might be other companies out there with better pay, but it's not bad IF you work your tail off. He ges paid per car, and it just depends on where you pick up & where you drop off as to what you make. The recruiter told him he could make in the 70,000's his first year...but there's no way because his truck has had ALOT of breakdown time and the pay for that is $*(#!!!! I say we'll be very lucky to end up in the 50's if his truck keeps on acting the way it has been the past 4 months.

Good luck...and like I said, the guys here can give you much better insight into this specific hauling and the in's and out's. I'm just the wife 'on the outside looking in'. :biggrin_25522:

Thanks for the boost. I was wondering if I had the right keywords in the title.

I'm sure if they gave him a good truck (or replaced his truck with something functioning), he would be just fine.

You're exactly right. He would be happy as a clam and would actually be PRODUCTIVE! Right now he's LUCKY if he gets 2 loads delivered in a week....3 is practically impossible with his beast, which sucks. Also, it's a slow loader being so old...he gets very envious of those guys who have nice new 9 packs. :biggrin_2559:

He had just over 2 years prior driving, van & flatbed. I think I might have messed you up when I said 'general' driving experience? Or is 2+(couldn't tell you exactly) yrs still considered a 'newbie'?

If you can show 2 years OTR, we will hire you at PMTG. Don't get so envious of the 9 car trucks, the new ones will be here soon and John should get a shot at one of these ones once we move out of them.

ok. By "newbie" I was referring to being a recent CDL school grad or just recently attaining your CDL license. Sorry if this caused any confusion.

No problem...I figured it was me who confused you! :biggrin_2559:

I was keeping an eye out to see if Rainman replied...I know he hauls cars too...but he must be out working hard...which is a GOOD thing. :)

    Good luck with your decision!
