4 Computers in the PT CAN all talking about how to downshift, and they still manage to over-rev an engine and take out the cams...

Ah, no. Ok I will take the bait.

F1 banned automated transmissions. Their drivers shift manuals like the one installed on this: Screen Shot 2016-08-07 at 1.58.43 PM.png

However the clutch system in that is a bit more complicated then the ones in F1 cars; It is full automatic. F1 cars have manual clutch system basically like this:

So after you get over your highfalutent hoity-toity F1 attitude, you will see you are really a fan of farm equipment.

F1 uses a dog gear manual transmission manually solenoid shifted by momentary ignition (or partial ignition) interruption. Nothing new. Same type of transmission you can buy at your local Honda equipment dealer.

Clutch is not used in shifting because it is not needed. The dog gear transmission can almost always be shifted with-out disengaging the clutch.

The up and down push buttons for the shifter and the lever for the clutch are located on the steering wheel. The reason for that is not speed or convenience. Has nothing to do with speed of shift. It is for aerodynamics. The ####pit can be slimmed down significantly if you remove a shifter on the side and clutch pedal on the floor.

The clutch lever is hydraulically actuated and dampened. It is not needed in shifting, only in starting, because of the dog gear transmission. Therefore the engineers that designed it made an attempt to make it hard for the driver to abuse the clutch for traction control or to momentarily increase the rev of the motor. Common tool used in other motorsports. But, drivers found a way around that:

You see, real drivers prefer a clutch.

Dude I'm a total geek and engineer who watches F1 every race and try F1 Technical and you'll get the seamless F1 transmission, yes no automated downshift, but they shift faster than you can blink an eye now.

Lived in Europe when Ferrari was just developing the first semi-automated transmission and used several of our products. So let's end this debate and I will ask, who will win the WDC this year? :)

So you agree with me then.

Or automated upshift. Banned years ago.

So can this but I wouldn't brag about it. Screen Shot 2016-08-07 at 3.10.54 PM.png

Who's products? What is semi-automated transmission? Why would you think Farrari had anything to do with the first?

    Don't care.
