um, if you have to look down to find a button then you've got other issues. I can drive my autoshift all day long in manual mode and never take my eyes off the road, I know where the buttons are by feel.

Quite obvious who and who hasn't driven an auto shift.
-
Some love 'em, some hate em but I'd sure like to have one when we're crawling thru traffic jams.
I honestly believe that shifting a manual transmission is the most difficult thing some people have ever accomplished and now, when they've finally learned to do it without scratching gears every time, they hate to give it up. -
I personally like to shift, but I'm still new. thats half the fun. But We have 20 trucks with auto's in them....no more problems then the eaton or spicer 10 speeds. i really have not heard of the laundry list of problems presented here and i have been around these autos for almost 10 years..

the laundry list of problems were from the 1st generation of the autoshift, probably 99 to 01 model years, and for Mack '03/'04 as well. as has been pointed out a couple of times, most of those complaining, well, they'd complain if they were hung with a gold rope from a platinum tree riding on a Unicorn. -
Just like to ask if all automatics are the same, or are some automatics better than others. All the information on this subject has been great, Thanks to everyone who has posted info on the automatics.

Just thinking, when on a hill at a stop sign or light with a full load and using the trailer brakes or glad handle to keep from rolling back, how would an automatic fare ?
