So I've been reading different articles about the long term future of the trucking industry. All of which point to one thing in general. Automation. Whether it be a fully autonomous, or semi autonomous. Some predict, all aspects of trucking will be replaced by robots within the next 10-12 years. Others argue, actual humans will be used only for local deliveries to the customer only. Some say there will be a convoy of trucks following a lead truck. I don't know but all of this seems like a fairy tale. I want to hear your thoughts...
Automation and the future..

Stuff like this shows. It will not be for a while Self-Driving Truck Encounters the Unexpected, Then Reaches a Milestone | News | Car and Driver
Also it's impossible to replace the millions of truckers out on the road now. -
Automation will occur. It is not a question of "if", but a question of "when", especially with the OTR truck driver.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -
The powers will rain fire down on our heads and we will be cavemen again before that happens.

When they put 40 of them going 50 around Talladega and the computer nerds are not afraid to drive their car in with them then get back to me

Remember that self driving Uber car in Arizona? It seen the person it hit, but Uber turned off the auto braking as it had too many bugs. Would randomly brake and cause other issues.
If a car cannot be trusted to know when to stop, semi's are no where near being able.....
Now what I do see in the near future is platooning. One truck leading with a driver and 3-5 behind auto following. Rrstricted to toolways, kinda like triples -
imagine it going down a hill or mountain without braking.

Ford is developing an AI that learns how to drive from watching someone else drive. The problem is when it decides to do something they don't/can't figure out why it made that decision.... They didn't program it to do that, it did it's own thing and didn't tell them why.

It is in our generations that this is going to happen, hoping it is made into a useful tool not a new overfunded underthinked regulatory agency. If used properly it could solve much of the transportation problems, have trucks out of the mix during rush hour then a mass herd migrating to the docks when it calms down, gps could take you to the front gate, even park the unit in a door after that silly human that rides along for the blame to open the doors, of course roll ups you have not that problem, then docks have automated lifts to unload the trailer going through scanners to inventory it instantly. anyway it is the future and we riding that wave.

Many people don't think they will be able to drive on ice or during foul weather.
Take a look at this....
How well could anyone drive a top heavy thing like this any better? Watch it go down down a snow covered hill at the end, on only two wheels...
That is only part of it, it would still need to drive around other people.
