Just watched a couple new videos on the road tests for autonomous trucks.
The technology is pretty impressive.
Seems even Trump and his head of DOT are behind the concept.
What is your opinion of the autonomous trucks?
No matter how good the technology becomes, I think they would still require a driver in the truck.
Or is that the plan. To have the truck drive on the highway and the driver do all the city driving?
You read all the news releases and it seems everyone is behind it.
I know the quality of the driver pool is low and companies are begging for qualified drivers.
Any thoughts on how this is going to effectively move freight.
Cost, drivers pay going forward, loading and unloading etc....
So chime in.

Just like 'automatic transmissions" anybody who participates in this Learned Helplessness is a fool, a "truck driver" NOT!! But just like the link's VDO ad one cannot stop "progress"!!
Oh boy can't wait!! The beauty of this is no more speeding, tailgating and, most importantly, REST BREAKS so even if a truck runs 40mph down the highway chances are it'll be there before you and I !!
We'll all become "local city drivers"? Home every night?? I say stop trading, buying junk from Japan and China and there wouldn't be any "driver shortage"!!

I think self driving trucks, and cars for that matter, are ridiculous. Can't really have a conversation about something I think is so absurd
Rollr4872, Hoodoo Voodoo and Midnightrider909 Thank this. -
First we were swarmed with flying cars and now we are unemployed by autonomous trucks. /hype

The sllf driving truck and cars will probably be a lot safer in the loop g run and that probably how they will out do a regular drivers. Remember something like 32,000 people die in traffic accidents each year not because of trucks but the computer and self drive vehicles will probably be safer in the long run. Having a real driver as backup and for fueling the truck or in snow

I'm not saying it's not impressive but it seems that all the tests have been with box vans.
Could you imagine a flatbed or heay haul multiple axle being driven by computers. -
tucker Thanks this.
