where they want you to fuel up
just worry about not hitting stuff -
Werner has 2 '100' gal. tanks. They would tell you where to fuel up and how many gal. I could go about 1200+ miles on a fill up but I usually tried to fuel up every day even if Werner didn't tell me. There fuelstops could be far apart in some areas. I also liked my showers

2, 100 gallon tanks are fairly typical of company owned, OTR trucks.
If the company tells you where to fuel up, that's where you fuel up. Usually you are not going to be able to use the last 10-20 gallons or so in each tank, and you don't want to cut it that close, anyway. During the winter if you are traveling in cold country, you want to even keep more fuel in the truck (not let the tanks get too low) in case you get stranded due to weather/accidents/closed highways, and have to sit overnight or longer, idling to keep warm. Some of my drivers that have come over from the mega carriers tell me that they would not only be told where to fuel but how much fuel to get at each stop. Sometimes fueling 4-5 times in a two day period killing their log book and if they didn't fuel as they were told they would be written up and could lead to being fired.
All of my trucks are equipped 2/120 gallon fuel tanks. I do have authorized fuel stops where the company fuel card will work across the U.S. but I don't tell them when and where to fuel.
My O/O's fuel cards will work anywhere the fuel card is accepted but they only get discounts at the same stops as the company driver are authorized to fuel. They can also pay out of their company credit cards or cash if they like but they must send a copy of the receipts for our records and IFTA reporting purposes. -
