I'm going to assume your a younger man, not an old fud.
Take a few minutes and consider your career path in trucking.
Movers make excellent money, especially with their own truck.
Your common garden variety van driver not so much, and at a mega company your dogmeat. Where do you want to be in 3 years?
Have you considered trying to get on with a Teamster outfit like ABF? Sysco? They also make excellent money, and are paid hourly. If you start their and make a career out of those places, you will pull $70K or better a year as a company driver.
Keep your nose clean in whatever you choose, and keep your driving record clean, cause 2 years experience with a good record will get you a very good job if you enjoy the OTR life.
The short answer to your question is your going to work your balls off to begin with. Your going to work hard always if you want to be successful in this game, it's just the nature of the beast.
I drive locally, and work so much, all hourly, there are times I've pondered just sleeping in the truck at the yard lol.
We require a minimum of a year, so I can't help you.
I think the BS that one has to learn to adapt to at a large company outweighs the work ethic needed. Just like driving your truck, keep your eye on what you want to do down the road in a year or two.Toomanybikes, JJRigger and austinmike Thank this. -

It's not a BAD place... but no one will hurt you there.
FFE had a dispatcher up there in a office. Absolutely very slow. Took him two hours to generate a simple BOL trip package for just wife and I with the tractor trailer outside the wall.JJRigger Thanks this. -
Thanks again to everyone, so helpful for a new driver. Dave I am just starting out not that young lol 35. This will be a second career for me. I was mainly just driving 20ft Uhauls locally for 6-8 hours a day. Thought i'd step it up a bit and get my AZ license (thats what they call it/classify it in Canada) and give it a try. The companies i've looked into so far are schneider,Acme and Walmart. I Will look into ABF and Sysco so thank you for that suggestion.
