Hey everyone. I know this is probably a redundant post, but I need to get the scoop on Averitt OTR. First off, I am not a job hopper and will make an informed decision to move to a good company I can stay with for a long time. I have worked for a large carrier for 2 years in October, and have decided to move on for more home time, better lanes, etc. I have been contacted by an Averitt recruiter. I know the game, so I need some answers and advice from someone who has no interest in recruiting me.
Currently I get 2300-2700 MPW, get home every 2.5 - 3 weeks, and run mainly northeast and some midwest. I'm sick of the northeast and getting home so little. I've heard that Averitt gets you home every week if you want, and I know the pay rate will be about the same I get now.
Questions: How is the home time, really? Can you still make money going home once a week? Are the trucks equipped with APUs? What should I expect during orientation? What miles should I average running out of Charlotte? Will I more than likely run southeast/midwest? How are the dispatchers/driver managers to work with? Any other advice??!! Thanks in advance for any help.

I drove for Averitt and I went with them because I THOUGHT they had a good reputation. The downside is they pay HHG miles so expect to be shorted at least 10% on miles actually driven. It is also very difficult to get detention or lay-over pay out of them. They also keep you confined to your region. Yes they try to get you home, if only for a day. If you go with Averitt you will have to purchase uniforms, so my advice would be to purchase the absolute minimum. My milage averaged less than 2000 per week. There is a lot of good info available on this site (and a lot of crap). Look around.

Thanks China. I needed some real info from someone who works for them now. Less than 2000 miles, huh? Can't do that, I have bills to pay. Where do you run out of? I knew about the uniforms part. I get HHG miles now. I will get my detention/layover pay when applicable. I get it now very easily, usually automatically goes on my check without me having to ask or mention it. I'll be ###### if I don't get paid what is due to me. Thanks again for the info. I still have a couple months before I decide - I have some paid vacation I haven't taken yet and I will use that before I change jobs.
