I thought Averitt was one of the more reputable companies out there and I went with them. The worst thing about Averitt is they claim to pay your mileage as per HHG, but after benefits kicked in (after 3 months) they shorted me as much as 25% of actual miles driven. I was prepared to be shorted 10% (HHG) So be careful, and if you do decide to go with Averitt, buy the fewest amount of uniforms allowed. Also getting detention, layover and unloading pay out of Averitt is like pulling teeth. If and when you go to orientation, be sure to ask about how they pay mileage. That is the question I failed to ask. To answer your original question, if they think you owe them money, Averitt will get it out of you. Good luck.

Mike makes a very good point. If at all possible, try to find a local/state community collage that offers a CDL course. Otherwise, the trucking companies have you by the short and curlies. Good luck.

Averitt is one of those that looks good on paper, so I am interested in what previous Averitt drivers say here.........

I for one like their advertised Midwest, SouthEast shipping lanes. (Wonder if they get good miles?)

Keep us posted truckernewbie. Let us know how it goes if you indeed go to Averitt.
