I do not like Houston's traffic phase
I do not like your road rage ways
I do not like cars who think I am too slow
I do not like Houston's stop and go
Another way I must surely know
I do not like the Houston traffic #### show
See there? Even Dr. Seuss doesn't like Houston.

You can head south from Shreveport,go through Leesville, come out on 10 near the TX/LA border.Theres a couple routes to take down through there.I like the Beltway South around Houston, not at rush hour though.

He's wanting to miss Houston, so his best bet is to take exit 589 (left-hand exit) and run TX 31 down to I-35 in Waco. It's an easy drive. Or if he's going to get off at exit 3 then he should take US 79 all the way down to I-35 in Round Rock.
Either way, he will get to miss Houston and Baton Rouge.Bud A., mjd4277 and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
@Flat Earth Trucker
Ok it’s a lil convoluted but it worx avoids Houston and DFW used it many times sneaking outta LaRodeo at wrong time of day
20 west to near Tyler 271 south into Tyler 155 off Tyler bypass to Palestine….79 off Palestine Bypass to 190-190w to 77s to Lagrange.,.follow 71 Lagrange Bypass west…follow signs for 71 bypass This will put you on sr 609…stay on 609 when 71 truck turns left…follow to 10 at Flatonia…grab 410 south east side of Alamo to 35 south
Unless of course you can hit DFW just after midnite…then you’ll have a fighting chance of getting all the way thru the Alamo before it’s a pkg lot

I go to Houston every night, the best time is between 11 pm & 4am. I would much rather go across I-10 west, than south on I-35 between Dallas and San Antone
This is best way coming off of I 20North Pole Nightmare, Flat Earth Trucker and mustang190 Thank this. -
If you choose to go this way, pay attention when you get to LaGrange. From US 77, turn right onto TX 71. Start heading west and then take the next exit (it doesn't have a sign or an exit number). Turn left and go underneath 71. Then turn left again onto East Business 71 (there will be a sign that says to FM 609). Follow that road to the second traffic light, which is FM 609. Follow 609 all the way to I-10 in Flatonia.
Do not try to take US 77 south from LaGrange. There have been many truck accidents at "the bluff" just south of town. Tight turns and steep grades.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
Thats why the ring roads / freeways come in handy saving you having to drive through the city center.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.

I run from n/e Louisiana to Houston area occasionally. I can go US165 south to I-10 west to Houston, Then either catch 610 or Beltway 8 & go around. I seldom take this route.
or I can go I-20 to Shreveport/Greenwood 79 to Carthage & run 59 all the way to Houston. It doesn't matter if I am going east or west, I catch the Beltway 8 toll road & go around. I take this route 99% of the time.
Both are the same mileage & time. There aint 10 miles or 20 minutes difference.
FYI, they are 6 laning I-10 in La & TX.... sometimes, it can be problematic. Other days it's not too bad. Depends on what they are doing & where. If you can wait about 20 years, they'll be done with that & it should be smooth sailing from BR to Houston.

This is a regular route of mine. Interstates probably a little quicker, but this keeps the blood pressure down.‘Olhand and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this.

I usually take 20 and jump south before the ms/la scale to la 28 to us 190 take takes you between Dallas and Houston
Will add some time to your trip but a docent routeFlat Earth Trucker Thanks this.
