Be especially careful at the Truckstops around Laredo, Tx. Young kids with cell phones will hang out in front of the store and act as lookouts while their partners lurk around the parking lot looking for trucks to break into.

Laredo. My first time there was to be my last. Inside the truckstop there that is.
I must have rolled into a dangerous day down there, and Im pretty aware and nice to everyone (While considering them for killing if need be) but there in Laredo I felt that I would be best gone. Too many eyes evaluating.
I don't worry about that too much.
To the driver who lost his Kindle, I have that on my desktop, literally a free application that could go onto the cell. It's the books that cost money and not that much thankfully.
I'll give you a source of really good books, it's called Google Books and anything older than 75 years is scanned in page by page. I have researched the ball bearing industry because of a life long interest sparked by my very first cross state lines load pickup which happened to be a ball bearing plant in Richmond/Petersburg area. So many precision made shiney went into the container.
The google books are free to download and read, good quality. Some of the older Trade and Industry books are coming on now from the ww2 era which contain a rather complete processes of industry to understand why truckers haul what they haul and what for.
Now Richmond I have not had too much trouble there. But Im led to understand that in the old downtown areas at night you best stay out.
There is one more truckstop I point out and that is called Jersey City off 15C do not be going into there. Ive already described that place from my first runs northeast being too young and stupid to be afraid until drivers taught me to be.6daysontheroad Thanks this. -
Box cutter within reach of drivers seat, crowbar next to fueling gloves, D-ring keys hanging on shirt pocket for jabbing into eyes if necessary.
Don't park in dark places & always be aware when walking, not looking or talking on a phone.
Look wary & post off, not timid or shy.
Walk with purposeful steps & head up high.
Keep watch on suspicions people without making eye contact & steer away if possible.
Leave marker lights on to see sneaking people beside truck.
Check behind side skirts for creepers.
Check 5th wheel & airlines ever single time before driving.
If attacked, go for eyes, nose, & throatTexnmidwest and raydregs Thank this. -
When I was in orientation, one of the drivers was telling the class about how she had to stand up to a purse snatcher in Dallas. We ended up talking later about how her last company would leave her in drop yards and such. I told her "You have the keys to the truck park where you feel safe/can take care of your self. Your dispatcher isn't the one who's gonna get stabbed. If the company starts asking questions, lie and lie well." She assumed that I had copious amounts of freedom at my last job. No I just didn't tell people what I was doing.
