Axle hop

    I have never seen one.
    I ran the truck on jack stands, and we found 1 bad wheel, which is why I replaced all of the steel wheels. I wondered about getting those centering pins for mounting the wheels, maybe I'll get a set.

    I just put centering nuts on my truck. They go through the wheel, not the drum. 3 nuts per wheel set. I liked the 180$ outcome

    I agree with Norther
    mechanic,driveline angle needs checking. When my new truck was set up the shop mechanics had to shim the axle to adjust the driveline angle to get it to meet specifications...

    Does it do it all the time or just under power?
    I had a truck that shook, got worse the higher the gear & loaded- it was a broken cross member at the trans.

    Driveline angles are going to give you a vibration or hum. Not a hop or shake or bounce. It's reciprocating mass related, tire and rim , wheel end yada yada.

    They do make those centering pins that center the drum also . He needs the full meal deal if his hubs are that bad.

    To that and NM's post: A new company truck had a vibration problem. Is was corrected by changing the ride height, trial and error. A campain came out on that truck about 6 months latter. It can from the factory with the wrong axle seats causing the driveshaft angle to be wrong.

    Had to look that up don't ya know since the hardest three years of my life was kg, kinder garden. You can use one of these ruler thankies with a half moon and a bubble on it. They read degrees and you are allowed about 4 between units or transitions. There are some other end to end rules of thumb but I would have to try to find them. A friend of mine has a digital one, just lay it on anything and it will tell you the angle. Sounds like what NM has and surly less expensive than a trip to the dealer.

    Forget about the driveshaft angle-You want the yoke at the trans to be parallel to the yoke at differential. Just use an angle finder. Like others said if angles where outta wack would have more of a vibration.
