Hello everyone
I need info about swapping differential on Volvo Truck. I have 2007 Volvo with D12. It has Meritor MT 40-14X differentials. I have switched my work. I am not hauling Super Bs in Saskatchewan, Canada. I dun mostly flat.
I am working as company driver and thinking to switch to owner operator. I cant find a truck for my budget. So I am thinking of converting my old truck for new work.
I am thinking to replace the differentials to super 40's.
My question is, is this a good idea as I a don't like the modern emissions truck.
Also my work is only busy in summer and slows down in Winter. That's why I don't want to lease another truck
Any information is appreciated
Thanks Everyone

I had a 05 d12d and had no power how would you run hills with that motor? It's dependable but weak.

Mine was a 13 speed .76 overdrive. With 3.55 rears. 465 hp felt like 465 on a flat level ground but on a hill felt like 200.. never left me on the road had 1.7 million miles on it. Was still going when it got totaled. Easy to work on not too bad on parts cost and overall a good truck. 5.7 to 6.5 30-50k gross if I was light and flat driving. 5.2 -5.5 heavy 70-80k gross it had meritor axles can't remember exactly what kind. Rpm was 1650@ 70mph in top gear truck weighed 19500 full of fuel 2x150 tanks

Yes, I had a good luck with D12. Super reliable engine.
I am thinking of pulling Super B with it by swapping my 40's for Super 40's
Think its a good idea considering its paid off and has been running good??
I have done all the major work in last 50K miles, like injector cups, tune up and fuel pump assembly -
I'm thinking you might have to change the whole axle assembly. I don't know if its possible to convert 40s to super 40s.
If that's the case, I bet you'd be paying at least $5k for ones out of a wreck. Then add in everything else like wheel seals, bearings, brakes, cams etc plus labour. I bet it comes out close to $15k assuming both diffs don't require a rebuild on top of that.Longhaullover Thanks this. -
I'd have no idea what 40s or super 40s are but if you're going go through the trouble of swapping out rears go find a cut off of a Newer same model. I've seen cutoffs for around 2500-3500 with disc brakes complete assembly and at that point it's bolt and unbolt as long as drive line is the same

Longhaullover and 401-Alex Thank this.

In that case cutoffs would probably be best as a lots of tandems and available.
Longhaullover Thanks this. -
Thanks guys. I will look for cutoffs then.
Appreciate you both @401-Alex and @AModelCat401-Alex Thanks this.
