back ground checks

    hello all can anyone tell me what kinds of back ground checks do companies do ,,, im in the process of applying for companies such as swift,prime and stevens , 16 years ago i messed up pretty bad and have a record,,, but nothing violent or drug related, i worked for a contractor on a rail yard and had to do an E- verify back ground check ,,, i past as it only went back 7 years,, one company has offered for me to go to there school and be hired on but i dont think thy have done any back ground at all ,,, sounded like a telemarketer on the phone ,, i got no other options in front of me and a family to support im nervouse waiting on the replies can anyone offer any info on time lines ,,, extent etc of back ground checks ,, thank all

    I would ask them to do the check before hand just incase something slipped your mind.. ie tickets from back in the day or anything else. That way you dont spend the time and money or loose the job you currently have, only to find out once your there you fired.

    Some checks can tell what color your skid marks were when you were 6 !!!!!!!!!!!!

    So be careful !!!!!!!!!

    If the company is good then they will run many checks. They want the best picture they can get before they start to invest time and money into a driver. You can count on you drivers record along with your criminal and your credit report as well. Just be honest on all your answers and you might have a shot. Any company knows that a young couple might have a few bad spots on their credit report when they are young.

    With the driver market being so flooded with drivers, the companies want better chances to pick a driver that will not waste their time.

    Another word of caution: Stay away from the mega recruiter hotlines and go straight to the company your applying too. They have their own recruiting department. By going straight to that company, you should be able to get some type of pre-approval in writing and clarify about background check. Those mega-recruiters will tell you ANYTHING to get you in the door ......
