I have 6 months OTR experience, so ya I know, that is a limiting factor. I'm a careful driver (clean record). I worked for Roeh. They're trailers are pretty junky. I was always working on a trailer. And they were pretty anal about .0003% fuel mileage change. Anyway, I needed/wanted to spend more time with my Dad before he died of cancer. So I left Roehl and along with my Mom, became a full time helper/care giver to him.
I've been driving a box truck part time. I see Schneider and Crete are offering kind of, sort of what I think I need (for ole Mom's sake), as a next step to getting me back on the road, ?? regional or deadicated: IL, MI, OH, IN. Something where I don't get too far away from home northern, IN and back home on the weekends. But for every good post on Pumpkin or Crete I'll find a not so very good one.
Any of you ole' Pros got any real advice of any companies that do business in my area that actually don't treat us drivers like we are something they just scraped off the bottom of their shoe?

Don't give up your box truck job! You will most dedicated routes you will need to wait in line for. Don't believe their "home on the weekend" slurs! Usually home on the weekend means Sunday from 11am till 3pm, every other week. Don't get me wrong there are a few regional routes out there but if you are going to spend the time out there why not just be an over the road driver and make decent money. I bet you won't make but a few dollars more than what you are pulling in your little box truck every week. Keep checking Craigslist you may get lucky and find a gig for an O/O or smaller company that has a run available. Sorry if this post sounds conflicting but I just realized you are in Indiana so your chances maybe a little better there.

I see you live in Plymouth, I live in Warsaw, there are three or four CDL jobs in our local paper (Times-Union). Moran Transportation hires often, they hire you part-time, but if they are satisfied with you they will put you on full time. I know someone who works there now, he quit werner during training under similar circumstances as yours. He is now full time and likes it, he's home every night.http://www.timesuniononline.com/ Good Luck!
