Well it was my first week with my own auth. After being almost 10 yrs out of driving, it's like riding a bike. Lol!!!!!
Since I'm only doing this part-time, I think it was a great first week or days. I had started on Tuesday afternoon calling brokers for my first load ,first broker seen I was newbie and wanted to take advantage of that by offering $1.10 a mile I strongly told him I could not move the truck for that price . Second call got a way better rate of $2.10 mile so I grabbed it for the next morning NY to OH . Great thing I had signed up with this broker on monday by doing the carrier packet ahead of time. So I was at the shipper by 6 a.m. on wed loaded by 7:30 I was off to OH. On my way there started to look for another trip, found a couple that I started to call on . Got to the lactation with no problems at all they where at lunch so it give me time to look for the next load. Found one coming back to NY about 40 minutes away from the house, started neg. with broker he started low I went high beyond what I had calculated for the trip , he puts me on hold comes back and offers me $10 less then of what I had calculated the trip for so I got $2.55 a mile. I was empty by the time they started to send me the confirmation signed and sent it back, funny part is I had pulled away from the dock I had just delivered getting ready to move on I suddenly realize it was the same place I was picking up from. Lol!!!!!!! Turned out to be a great week do I got a total of 6 loads in by Friday night, even do they where shorts hauls I was home every night which I did not plan on . Average pd per mile was $2.45 which I just calculated.

Congratulations! Since you have been away from the industry for so long, did you have any issues with insurance rates/ getting a policy?

I rented a dry van this week from a local company. Cost of the rental was $179.00 Until I save up some money to buy my own.
