Read the first 25 pages or so any intel would be cool. Yeah obc/peoplenet is a pain basically drive a mile behind everyone. Youre lucky youre not throttled or speed capped though. They always load me heavy and these trucks absolutely cannot climb. Any numbers / details would be appreciated. Would you still have chose jb or another? Would you do it again if you could go back? Land...star looks decent according to one poster in your blog. Thanks in advance.

I am running Midwest and southeast mostly as well. I too hate Virginia mountains and I get plenty of them. Heavy loads more often than light. That is downside. I seldom refuse a load because I know slow and steady wins the race and my income has been steady.
I always flinch at telling my income because its against my upbringing..plus the trolls will surely descend but here it is.
After lease payment insurance and toll tags etc etc and fuel.. My net gross averages $2100 a week. I set aside 1/3 for taxes. My take home then has been about $1400. Sometimes I get a super week and get to keep over $2000.
Two lease choices. Bcl or TEL.Do NOT lease thru Bcl. On my standard shift Kw there is no on guard so the magic braking tattle tale nanny is gone. There is a waiting list for Kw. But jb announced to us they want to double lease fleet so probably have fl available but they are On guard equipped..yuck.
I don't make that much more than a company driver admittedly but I love the freedom. Home time is easy to get but don't forget the truck payment never stops.
Yes. I would choose Jb again. They are straight with you and never mess with your money.
    Hope this helps.

Only if you fail to add in the value of matching 401k, vacation, health insurance, workmans comp, etc. And use the typical mega fleet driver as the benchmark income level.

Food service, ltl, linehaul, and private fleets should be the salary benchmark, not swift and werner.

What part of my statement wasnt 100% accurate? I'm all for optimism but not at the expense of truth.

A statement of opinion is always 100% true.

Fact is, that there are 1.7 million drivers. Half of them make less than 45k a year. Only 10% make more than 64k. And the megas hardly account for 850,000 of the drivers.

I dispute that you are all for optimism. Other than that your comment merits investigation by one making a change from company to self employed. I have everything you listed covered pretty much independently. Occupational health insurance is included in weekly expense and jb provides ad&d for free. I have my own health insurance. Sep or ira or mutual funds for retirement instead of 401k. The only 401k I hung around long enough to become fully vested was pre truck driving life. We all agree giving up the ol' w2 requires planning and personal responsibility. And we are all certain you have all the answers.
What I like about you most is your consistency...

I never said you can't get those things without an employer. However just because i cam but health insurance for my family does not mean there is no monetary value that can be placed on employer provided health insurance.

For example i pay over 1200 a month for our family health insurance. If i sold my truck and got a job at ups i would get there insurance, which is much better with lower co pays and at a much lower monthly cost than 1200 bucks. That has a monetary value.

Now I'm not saying an employee position is better, imo being self employed has many benefits that you can't put a monetary value on that are much more important to me. but the topic(specifically the post i quoted) was net income, those intangibles are a different conversation.

I don't dispute that the average income is low, average is the key word there. I don't know about the rest of you but being average had never been my goal. The majority of drivers can't get a good job through their own lack of skill and/or bad choices.

The beauty of this industry is how easy it is to put yourself in the top 10%. Dont hit things, pee clean, and don't job hop. That's pretty much it. Do those three things and with just a couple years experience you qualify for the gravy jobs. Location does play a role in it but very few of us can't relocate.
