Back on the road. Lease purchase with JB Hunt

I have a truck with a cummins engine and my app is not working so I have been idling. I bump it up to 900 rpm and the fan will come on every few minutes and stay on what seems to be an eternity. I hate it and I know others probably do too. So now I'm at the thermo king dealer trying to get it fixed.

 

They aren't bad. I've only parked next to one that was unusually loud.

I've parked next to a few that had belts and squeaked like 19 mofo's.

Fortunately I was able to move.

 

I hate those things worse than a reefer. It's like parking a running lawnmower right underneath your window and pumping the exhaust straight into your truck.
That said, if I had one, I'd run that rascal every night.
Call it APU envy.

 

I've had to run my engine this summer. You can unplug the fan solenoid and the fan will run continuously. I can't stand the fan on/off roar.

 

I got my Apu fixed now I don't have to idle.
Opus you are right about them sounding like a lawn mower but I would rather hear that than the engine fan off and on all night.

That is why I spent the money to get Apu fixed I have peterbilt 579 with Cummins isx. It sucks when the fan comes on. I thought about turning the fan on and just let it run.

 

No APU might as well be using a covered wagon or a buck board.

 

Maybe you guys should get a job that allows you to sleep at home every night.
Then you could stop crying about the natural sounds of trucking.
