Either way they know what you make and what they make and the odds are not in the best of your interest. Why not work for a smaller company and save up your dough for an older truck thats cheaper? Stay away from the debt, large company outfits and hustle to get ahead. If you do want to work for a big company then definitely work LTL. Great insurance, good company atmosphere, low stress and relatively fun work.

Part of the mystique of trucking is that your life is always in the balance, meaning that we are subject to sudden death at any time without a whole lot of warning. Now that you have the excitement of knowing that you have the ability to cause crashes, burst into flames or suddenly lose your power steering, you are in an elite class of drivers who get to experience more excitement on a daily basis than the rest of us.
"May the odds ever be in your favor."

You can control the risks easily by religiously doing maintenance checks, brakes, oil, tires etc.

I just muted some jack stick on my tire wear thread cause he keeps posting charts on air pressures, talking about how long his tires last.

I've always made the argument in the real world it takes a measure of luck not to hit anything so as to damage the tires where they become unsafe, such as my last two steers, one had a deep puncture, the other a deep slice. So guess what? At 100K they went in the garbage.

Anyway you want it too. Truckload, LTL, refrigerated, liquified, bulk, over sized.
