Yep I'm running ups freight right now. But it aint in Ohio. This ups contact is netting me 18k in under 30 days of work.
I have stated what i net on ttr a couple times.
My goal is to net 60 to 65k a year and i met it every year. Its also a very low net number for an owner operator and i could net double that. Thing is, i don't like being away from the family more than i have to. I havent worked more than 180 days in a year in quite a few years, and most years its down around 150 days. time with my wife and kids is just more important to me than big money.
Now i get that not everyone is fortunate enough to have found the lucrative opportunities. I got no problem with that. People gotta do what they gotta do. what i take issue with is the thought that an owner operator should be satisfied with making 60/70/80 thousand over a full years worth of work.
If that's the best you can find, that's one thing, but to be content with that number and not seeking better opportunity is a completely different thing, and that's what my point always has been. Dont fall into the false belief that 80k on a years work is "good" for an owner operator. Always keep trying to find better.

On guard People net update: People net has stopped bleeping me with those creepy headway things ever since I raised Cain about how much I did not appreciate micro-management. Plus I've learned to anticipate unicorns and by shutting off cruise at once it avoids those neck snapping false stops. Much better.

Still issues with starter. I may need new batteries too but I'm pretty sure starter or maybe clutch switch is bad. I'm engaging in risky behavior by not taking into shop yet but all my home time was absorbed with total at home crisis management. Don't get me started on my $4000 mobile home issues....

Ugh. One receiver took forever to unload me and then the dominoes began to fall. Sat over 6 hrs at this shipper as a work in and ran out of 14 in the lot.

Random gripe session. Browsing these forums I've run across some of the best information anywhere. It feels like I'm with friends and part of the gang. I've also run across some of the same old malcontents you bump into as they laze around the coffee shop wondering why they're getting such low pay.
Thoughts. 1.This is not an easy job. If you want to be a millionaire go build a hotel chain. 2. Respect yourself and what you do. This is an enormously important job. You haul hundreds of thousands of dollars in product every day. And don't forget the value of the equipment you've been entrusted with. If you're a company driver that truck and trailer are their investment. 3. You could kill somebody with this big ol truck. Drive like you care about that. 4. If you spend 3 out of 5 nights in warehouse lots and trainyards ya might not get a shower every day. 5. What's wrong with sweatpants? They're inexpensive, comfortable, and dry quicker in the laundry than jeans.
There. I said it.Farmerbob1, lilnae, Mrgreen09 and 5 others Thank this.
