After leaving flatbed to go do something else i'm going back. It's been about five or so months since my last flatbed load, since then I pulled reefer for about a month and really hated it. Then, came the tanker hauling milk, which did not pay near as much as reefer or flat. So, I am going to go back into flatbedding. I know the work and like it, and the money is way better so i may never leave it again. Sometimes greener grass is just astro-turf...

Tanker usually pays much better. Forget the food grade stuff. Did you look into Hazmat tanker? You can make mad money in Texas.
-
No Haz Mat, I haven't got the endorsement, I liked tanker but the food grade stuff is low pay and wait times were unreal.
-
Did you leave flatbed the first time because you was just plain bored and wanted to try something different? What was it about reefer you hated so much? There are many tanker positons other then food grade. You say you may never leave flatbed again, after reading this post I wouldn't be so sure about that.As you know theres no perfect driving job out there.Stop finding reasons you didn't stick with it and start finding good.

not too much money for flatbed driver or o/o

I don't worry about too much, I do what I do because it is fun and interests me in the beginning, if I lose interest or it becomes no fun, I leave and go do something else. I don't care about job jumping or any of that. I just want to do my job without being bored or mad all the time.
Reefer was fun for a bit but it faded, not sure why. Tanker was fun and easy but pay was bad. Flatbed is big in my area and most of the companies know me and are glad to have me sign on, always knowing I do my job, but i'm always looking for a reason to stay instead of leave.
That's me. Take it or leave it. IDC. -
So.. .you came crawling back, eh?
The grass on the other side still needs mowing. I've left flatbed twice, both times were a financial disaster. -
Not so much crawling, Bob, I was almost running. I know what you mean about financial disaster.

I have been pulling flatbed OTR since January. I have stumbled across an opportunity to drive tanker locally. I checked this thread to get some input to help me decide. I enjoy flatbed, securement, and even tarping, I find doing a good tarp job rewarding. I wonder though if I would miss pulling a skateboard. I already have my hazmat and tanker endorsement. I think I would be making the same money ( or at least as much) driving tanker, but I'd be home every day. That is worth something.
